The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Drinking this worthless coffee that is secretly half decaf... 2J, how can it be secretly half decaf if you *know* it is half decaf?

I hear those roofing shingles are low in carbs. Some are even high in fiber!

Went to Petco this mornin to check out the catfood situation for BC. There was the sweetest Maine Coon waiting to be adopted! She is a one year old named Pookie, who has just beend spayed. Heh, we need another pet like a hole in the head.
Anyway, I bought some canned food to mix with BC's dry food ~ same brand, and formula. Hoping to get her turned over to the softer food when mom gets back from her trip. I know mom would understand, but I am not sure about the other two cats :-) They might try to *steal* her dinner.

I think I'm going to stop on my way home and get some canned food for Cleo. She really hasn't eaten much at all, and if it'd help...
The hard part will be convincing the other cats that they don't neeeeeed any of Cleo's food. Likewise the dog.

Yes, the softer food might be easier for her to digest. The canned food might be more appetizing to her too. Hmm, maybe you could put the food in the closet where she has been hiding out?

I know it's half-decaf, but Steve doesn't and he's still making it for me every morning (has been since Mother's Day last year...my gift from him), after he makes his own.

Hmm, maybe you could put the food in the closet where she has been hiding out? Heh...except that if I did Fiona would probably corner her in there and scare the dickens out of her! I swear...some days I'd like to strangle that dog. She will NOT take no for an answer when she wants to do something...the most she ever does is wait until I'm out of visual range.

Here is an email from Dad
Subject: Kitty Lives!!!
The vet just called and said the kitty is out of surgery and is doing well. He found a growth right where the small intestine attaches to the stomach - easy to remove - challenging and tricky to re-attach. But he says he thinks it will work and the kitty will recover. They will keep him a day or two to watch for developments. He seems confident that the surgery will hold.
He described the growth as about as round as a silver dollar but instead of growing round like typical tumor's it was flat, sort of like a small pancake wrapped around the lowest part of the stomach. He removed about a third to half of the stomach, which then led to the tricky part of re-attaching the intestine which is between a dime and a quarter in diameter - compared to a hole in the stomach two inches accross. But he thinks he was able to pull it off. He said the cat will have no trouble adjusting to the smaller stomach, that cat stomach's are large compared to what they actually need. So not to be concerned about that.
In all likelihood the growth is malignant, so often in cats that they don't send tissue in for pathology.
Dona will drop by and visit him this afternoon - I think they both need the comforting... :-) Dona was very uptight about prospect of losing him.
Complex surgery to involve the stomach.... I just can't imagine... and the surgery cost several hundred dollars.
How much would the same procedure cost for a person? how many tens of thousands? Only thing missing are the attorneys.

I guess! - Now we'll be watching to see if these things come back! I don't think there is a further chemo treatment prescribed in either case...

Yeah...as expensive (to me) as Cleo's ordeal has been, I'm still somewhat amazed at the cost of the drugs and all that. TINY in comparison to human medicine...and often it's the same thing.
Glad to hear Kitty is pulling through!

Oh did he play! He played guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and when he passed away, his new hobby was repairing/restoring instruments and bows. He was trying to learn how to play the hammer dulcimer when he died.
