I unloaded a fat full yard of gravel from the truck (in two pickup loads), and toted it downhill to the bulkhead, in only a couple of hours, not including time to run out and reload the pickup. The same thing without the brake would've been twice as many loads and a really backbreaking chore. But with the brake I could easily control a load that was twice the amount of gravel, and I finished up without being all beat up at the end.
Neat stuff. I recommend it highly.
To: SuziQ
SuziQ; well, Derek Jocobi did play the part well; when I read the books, I can picture the characters, thanks to the PBS Mystery series.
re; Gypsy, we think we are all lucky. :-)
To: Ramius
Cool. Big'ol loved it instantly. I'm a total clutz with wheelbarrows.. I'm leaning toward something with two wheels.

Sam; well, take a red oak or hickory board, chop or rasp away all extraneous wood, use a cabinet scraper or sharp knife to smooth, and attach a string. :-) Check out Paul Comstock's "the Bent Stick" from the library, it is a pleasant way to whittle away the hours. :-)

well, take a red oak or hickory board, chop or rasp away all extraneous wood, Why am I reminded of Michelangelo's comment that "the sculpture is already there inside the stone... all I do is chip the stone out from around it."
Yeah, right... :-)

Yeah, sorry about that.
To: RosieCotton
Rosie, although the news could have been better, it's not all bad either in that tumor was excisable and kitty made it through surgery. That is good, Rosie, you did your part, we would be glad for that. Hoping Kitty heals quickly and is bouncing for many more years.
To: Ramius
It worked purdy good though eh? Didn't have any runaway wheelbarrows full of gravel headin' for the beach?
To: HairOfTheDog
It worked great. After the first trip down the hill with it, I can't even imagine doing the same job without it. That thing is a lifesaver.
To: Ramius
Ramius, good evening, well, I suppose it was a bit over the top. :-) There was a bowyer who had the tag line: "carve a little wood, pull a few strings, sometimes magic happens". I always got a kick out of that one.
To: Ramius; HairOfTheDog
...and of course I HAVE done the same thing without it for a few years now, and damn near killed myself in the process.
To: Lil'freeper
I have a two-wheeled manure cart... I like it a lot better... a lot more stable for totin' heavy loads.

Incidently.... I kept gettin' flat tires.... so I just took the tires off.... been running it just on the rims now for a year, works just fine! Even with heavy loads, if the ground is firm. I think that only works because they are the large diameter wheels...
To: Ramius
Yeah.... well, to appreciate it, they would have to see a picture of the ramps you have to get down with a barrow full of gravel.... let alone the grade of the lawn.
To: osagebowman
Roger that.
Someday I may even get into archery. It strikes me as a good way to relax and focus in a way that is nice and quiet. Something I can do in the yard. I don't suppose that I'd necessarily get into bowhunting, but I could really enjoy a little paperhunting in the yard.
To: HairOfTheDog
Huzzah! Now that's my kind of cart. I'd like to find one with wider tires, tho.

I knew the wheelbarrow had a brake, but I failed to note the foam filled tire, hills we don't have, black locust trees we do have, no flats would be nice :-)
To: HairOfTheDog
I figure that the one especially steep ramp is about 30 or 35 degrees. It's a bugger. But that brake was easily able to simple STOP the wheelbarrow fulla gravel in the middle without effort. I tried this just to be sure I could. :-)
To: Lil'freeper
They make them with fat tires...... check out farm supplies rather than home and garden stores.
