Sure, anywhere you can driving to in just an afternoon is 'close'. At least as far as relatives go.

Mennonites make some concessions to the modern age. They drive cars, along with buggies, have electriciy and phones, but probably not DSL. Clothes style is still 1840s.
The Amish have taken hugh cultural hits in the last couple of decades. Even the world of the Harrison Ford movie, "Witness", is fading fast. The skills shown in that wonderful barn-raising sequence are now extinct. It's now pole barns, like everyone else.
Some Amish are a bit casuistrical about technology. They'll have a shed with electricity and phone lines running in. Then they take the cordless phone to the house, or the store, and then take it back to the shed for recharging. I can't blame them, there are major changes in the world, and some of them for the better.
I really loved "Witness", especially when Harrison Ford applied the "g'nad treatment" to the city-slicker punk in town.

Got these pictures from Steve earlier today. They're pretty self-explanatory. It looks like Jessie James should do an episode of "Monster Garage" from Steve's unit.

There's got to be a nice happy medium somewhere between the Dating Game and arranged marriages.
Boy I'm glad I'm married. I never really expected to get married, but as it turned out I had nothing else planned for that particular afternoon, so why not tie the knot?

Good morning! Happy Monday (happy 'cuz I have it off)!
Was planning to assemble my garden beds today, but a glance out the window revealed snow flurries! ARGH!!! Highs in the upper thirties! GRRR!
I really want it to warm up a bit. Might have to move the blocks to the basement and paint them there in lieu of the original painting-in-situ plan. *pout*

Yes, I have a problem with larrge crowds in enclosed spaces making me claustrophobic. Hi! May I join the Mildly Agoraphobic Club too? I will never shop on a weekend and I haven't been to a concert since Metallica was good (...And Justice for All).

All the concerts I go to are for Christian bands. Most of the time, they're held in churches, and the church will almost always have a balcony. Not many people sit up there, because it's far from the music, but for me, perfect!

I really loved "Witness", especially when Harrison Ford applied the "g'nad treatment" to the city-slicker punk in town. I loved that too... And I think I would have really made a good Amish.... There is a luddite in me that would be really happy that way! Maybe I could have a shed to charge my cordless power tools....
Good Morning!
To: JenB
I've never been to a concert in a place any larger than a good sized movie theater. Just don't like any bands that would require anything larger, which works for me.

Good morning all! I have only a few minutes till the boys wake up, at which time I will be logging off.
Matthew is great, for those of you that have inquired...no real trouble at all. Steve and I discussed the situation and came to the conclusion that I was overreacting to be upset but that the little habit Matthew had gotten in to really should have been noticed sooner. Just like my house, I had been neglectful and I'm remedying that with ease.
Steve started Atkins 2 weeks ago today and as a result, the whole family is really eating better and healthier! He's going to do one more week of induction. He has gone from 210 to 198 in just 13 days. I think even he was astounded (hard to tell, being the dwarf he is.)
Lil: You gotta post some pics when you get that square foot garden going...I wonder how Corin's doing with his arrangement?
300wm: I have complete faith in your choice of knives! Thanks for keeping me apprised!
