Don't you just love it? Every dollar earned by "The Passion of the Christ" is a slap in the face of every organization from The New York Times to the Southern Poverty Law Center which has spent the last 20 years trying to discredit Christianity.

Wow.

Looking at the all time box-office for R-rated movies, it seems inevitable that this is going to pass "Saving Private Ryan" ($216,540,909) today! That's less than two weeks into the release. By the upcoming weekend it could be battling Matrix Reloaded for number 1 R-rated movie ever only 2 1/2 weeks after being released.

This is a genuine cultural phenomenon. No one in the industry knows where this thing will end, or how high it will go. This breaks all the rules.

Not just climbing to 47th Alltime, but now #3 Alltime Second weekend, #4 Alltime fastest to $200 Million, and #5 Alltime R rated.

Passion should be #2 alltime R-rated by the end of the week, and has an outside chance of catching Matrix-Reloaded for #1 (would need to gross $68 Million this week).

The biggest things to remember -- ALL the other top grossing movies were released in the Summer (may-Aug) and Holiday (Thanks-New Year) Blockbuster periods, and this is a religious movie.

The Passion has rewritten everything Hollywierd ever thought about Box Office popularity.

Don't you just love it? Every dollar earned by "The Passion of the Christ" is a slap in the face of every organization from The New York Times to the Southern Poverty Law Center which has spent the last 20 years trying to discredit Christianity.

Did Southern Poverty Law Center weigh in on this?

It's already number five all time domestic for an R-Rated movie.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/domestic/alltimempaa.htm

I think it will easily catch Matrix Reloaded for the number one spot there.

Should've figured they'd put their two bits in.

the #1 R-rated movie EVER.

Domestically. Still have quite a ways to go to beat the Matrix Reloaded worldwide. Over $700 million.

Where Mel is actually going to make the most sales is DVD and digital medium. This movie will continue to sell decades from now. I predict that many Christians will come to view it as a 'visual supplement' to the Gospel and a must have item right after the Bible. If that is true, you'll have people buying this one for years and years and years. New generations of Christians will buy it just like they buy Bibles.

The Passion will become the best selling DVD of all time- no problems.

I predicted in a pre-release thread here that it would make its investment back, but that it would not be a huge success. Boy, I'm glad I was wrong.
