Yankee or Dixie?
Check on your dialect and see if you might have crossed over to the "other side"! Simply click on the correct answer. As you go, the quiz will automatically interpret each answer to show you what your answer implies about you. When you are done, press Compute My Score. Your score will be calculated as a percentage: 0% is pure Yankee and 100% is pure Dixie.

* This test is based on results from the Harvard Computer Society Dialect Survey of 30788 respondents.

I got the same.

What I find kinda humorous is hubby and I just got a new choco lab pup, named her Dixie.

Cute name! I want another lab...

I get either Dixie or Yankee depending on how I answer the soda / pop question. I call it either / or, so I wasn't sure how ta answer it. But I guess since I get my "culture" from Mom whose background was from kinda southern Indiana, that makes sense!

Low 70's. I take exception with some of the answers though.

Creek is "Crik" and Caramel is "Carml" (one syllable), and a sale on the front yard is called an "awk-shun" :^)

78% Dixie. I think my accent's gotten worse (or maybe it's more noticeable) since moving to Dallas.

Just because I knew what "Mischief Night" was - I lived in NJ for one year - it put me in:

43% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.

Texas 15 years
Arkansas 8 years
Calif 3 years
NJ 1 year

the remainder NOT in the US - Cuba (11), Peru (2), Okinawa (1), Phillipines, Korea, here & there & everywhere!

Hell! I don't even know where I spent the entire 53 years!

Heehee, 48%(yankee). I'm a lifelong resident of CA, but my parents moved out here from MA before I was born. Cool quiz!

46% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.

Looks like the information used in the test could be a bit more sophisticated than just "Yankee" or "Dixie" thought. Most of my responses came up with "Great Lakes region," which is more accurate for me than "Yankee."

52% Dixie. I have lived in Michigan all of my life ecxept the two years my husband was stationed at Fort Knox. One afternoon, while living in married housin on post, I couldn't shut off our outside spigot. I called up another Army-wife friend of mine to see if I could borrow some pliers--pligh-errs. My friend, a Louisiana native, had absolutely no idea what I was talking about, even after I described them to her and told her what I needed them for. Finally, I spelled the word. "Oh, you mean plarz!"

Guess I'm not so Dixie!

I also found it interesting that much of the feedback related directly to Michigan/Great Lakes: Devil's Night, TPing...but no mention of cow tipping!
