Got to Drudge website: get hit with spyware
Posted on 02/19/2004 9:51:55 AM PST by Grig
I have Spybot: Search and Destroy installed on my PC. It's a great freeware program for removing spyware and preventing it from getting pushed on your system in the first place.
Everytime to go to Drudge now I get a popup from Spybot telling me that the page is trying to download 'Avenue A, Inc' a cookie that it indicates is a 'known threat'.
I think we need to let Drudge know our objection to this kind of thing.

I hear Drudge uses black helicopters to follow up on the Avenue A info.

For the same reason, I quit going to the Drudge site last year.

Post vanities in Breaking News: get hit with abuse & taunting;^)

This is simply a cookie being dropped by an ad placement company. Drudge doesn't have anything to do with it explicitly other than the company who handles placing ads on his site is using another company who is dropping this cookie. They are everywhere. I have SpyBot immunize and select "block silently" to avoid those annoying messages. But I'll follow through with your suggestion and email him to let him know that we're against such tracking cookies.

Cookies, though those programs detect them, aren't spyware.
