NASCAR Nextel Cup 2004 Daytona 500/Gatorade 125s Qualifying - February 8 @ noon Eastern on NBC

Daytona Beach, FL - Want to enjoy a nice, relaxing week at Daytona International Speedway?
All it takes is two fast laps around the 2.5-mile trioval.
Forty-six drivers will hit the track Sunday, but only two will get the coveted prize -- a spot on the front row for the Daytona 500 on Feb. 15.
Those guys get what is akin to a bye week in the NFL playoffs. They'll have time to work on their race setup while everyone else is prepping for the twin 125-mile qualifying races Thursday -- which basically set the rest of the 43-car field for the Great American Race.

Late partial ping (didn't get Norm's list because he's doing "quality time"; thanks Pete-R-Bilt)
At the moment, it's an all-Yates front row, as Dale Jarrett, the Shootout winner, turns in a 47.902/187.884 lap.

A headwind up the backstretch will do that. Man that was a bad AOL/TrackPass commercial.
Crash Mayfield out now.

Jr "The good ones get checked more" 20 minutes late for his qualifying spot. Flash on the wagon says what happened to the 5 minute clock which was my question. Do they give them extra time? I thought I saw at a race late last year some didn't qualify at all because they were late going through inspection.
Maybe it depends on whether it's the car being late or the inspectors holding them up.

Howdy all. Sorry I missed out on the thread last night, great shootout.I gotta say, being a jr. fan, that he did real well last night in a car that was very uncooperative.
Gonna be an interesting year, especially in the ford camp.
Norm...thanks for deciding to do the threads again this year...you do a great job.

It looks like he did make the 5-minute clock (the Burton brothers took their turn in front of him). He's out now, but nobody's picking up speed down the backstretch.

Green for Jr through turn 2, but he's losing time in the backstretch.
