I have the same question. I pay over $200 per month too, and I have a $500 annual deductible. I NEVER use that much in a year. and I owe for a couple doctor visits over one incident this summer.
I think the first visit ought to be free with the policy each year, and really frequent users of medicine should pay more for being over-average. The current setup just doesn't make sense to me.
That's why I like the Medical Savings Account set up that is part of the new Medicare Bill. You could set aside up to $4,000.00 per family to pay for out of pocket expenses ( like Dr. visits and stuff) then buy a catastrophic insurance policy for the big ticket items like what Graybeard's wife had to do. We have health insurance with SSQ's company, but before the company pays anything, we have to have paid a $500.00 deductible per person. We might as well not have it for all the use we get out of it. It wouldn't cost $1,000 for all of us to go have a full physical each year!
