Hey, Rose... I've been reading a couple of the Alan Dean Foster "Flinx" books you recommended, and enjoying them heartily, though I think I've got them out of order! But they are fun.

I love Flinx ... but Pip is a dream pet!
Pip likes salt, and when Flinx is in the credit, he buys a big bowl of giant pretzels ... Pip gets in the bowl and rolls around in them, eating. I love that image!
Check out his other stuff, too, especially the books featuring September Skua ... they are an offshoot of the Flinx books. Also check out Montezuma Strip and The Mocking Program ... police procedurals set in the future, with harder science than J. D. Robb's Death series.
Did Da Bear recommend the Peter Hamilton books?

There's order to Flinx? Whaddayaknow. I have no clue which order I read them, but heartily enjoyed them.
