For some reason that Tom Bombadil reminds me of the horrendous "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" done awhile back, where the animals were played by people in giant costumes where you could actually see zippers and such. Dunno why.

Do you know which version that was or when it was made? I saw a recent BBC adaptation of that where the lion was played by a mechanical lion and it actually looked pretty good.

The same one. The lion was pretty good, except that his mouth didn't move in sync with what he was saying, which was a bit disconcerting.

But many of the other animals weren't exactly realistic, to say the least.

I think Rosie is talking about theBBC / Wonderworks Production of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. It was slightly cheesy, but I liked it better than the animated one.

The same company did versions of Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair. Our kids liked them.
