The cashier looked at me kinda anxious, because the lady was taking so long and I suspect she thought I might be getting mad. But I just smiled, tears in my eyes and that's what got the cashier...

I remember taking my grandmother shopping once when she was very old and delicate like this lady was. I forgot I was in the automatic shift car and pressed the "clutch" hard, which was the break. Oops! Threw my poor grandmother into the floorboard! (This was before manditory seatbelts, you know.)

Hehehe.... I've been having that problem lately - not hurling people through the windshield but I find myself with my foot on the brake before it ought to be - because I think it's the clutch!

Funny how fast the stickshift has become second nature to me, though. I love it!

Ouch!--hope she wasn't hurt! Yeah, older people who have that type of physical disability aren't the ones who are problematic to deal with. It's when they have a bad attitude to go with it, like the cases you were describing, that it becomes more irritating. My perspective on it is that people who have bad habits when they're younger tend to become ingrained in them as they get older, so if they're bossy or pushy or cranky or stubborn or whatever when they're younger they tend to become really bossy, etc. when they're older. But then like you say, for every person like that there's also a sweet old lady or kind elderly gentleman.
