I can't like a .45 because my hands are too small to hold it properly. I hear though, that someone makes a smaller capacity .45 with a smaller grip. If I run across one of those, then maybe!

Suppose maybe I'll just have to get down there and go to the range with my friends. Not that it's a hardship - but seems like when I get home there is just not a lot of time for stuff.

If I run across one of those, then maybe!If you're talking autoloader, I can't recommend the Glock .45s highly enough. They have a great grip shape, even for small hands. The ergonomics are great, and I find it more comfortable to shoot than the Browning M-1911 style. I know that's heresy, but it works for me.
If you want a revolver, try Smith&Wesson, Ruger or Taurus in double action. I don't recommend single action revolvers except as curiosities.
