Well, I have the results of my experiment to report to you! I logged into the internet last week for three days, keeping the window open for at least 6-8 hours each day.
I clocked in at 194 minutes for the whole week. I think that pretty much tells me how they're clocking me.
Meanwhile, I am pursuing getting a laptop for wireless/cellular internet. That will make this a LOT easier!
Thanks for all the tipes, tricks and ideas! :)

It was a surprise to me to end up without power in the middle of the road ghosting to a stop from 55.
Quite a shock honestly.
I let my foot off the gas and the engine just quit without warning, as if a switch was flicked.
I slapped it into neutral as mentioned, and tried to turn the wheel and discovered that everything was powered.
*chuckle*
My statement of , "Ummmm... Uh-oh." was an understatement I guess.
Still, 60k pounds?
*shaking head*
I still would not have been able to get it off the road, 2 foot steering wheel or not.

Yup.
I really don't like the trolls.
(And I admit to using abusive and rough language on them when I find them..)

Do they usually cook the meat on that spit thing for souvlaki? Yes, they are roasted vertically the same way. The meat is cut away as needed, until the whole roast is used up.

While he's home helping us build the addition, he's also gonna teach Clare and Joseph programming, and teach Cognitive Psych to Clare. She had expressed interest in Neurology when we were on the way down to get him Sunday night. On the way back, she mentioned it, and they got to talking about how we learn things and the brain processes involved. I think she'll enjoy learning this, especially from her older brother.

The curriculum that Clare and Joseph are using utilizes historical fiction as well as the Great Books. I agree that kids are more receptive when the history is imbedded in a great story!

Also like spicy Thai foodSir SuziQ (my hubby) LOVES Thai food. He usually tells the folks to make it even hotter than the menu indicates. If it doesn't make his nose run, it's not hot enough!

what exactly did you do for your homeschooling? Was it organized into specific courses and curriculums or if not how did that work? Well...you'll find that there are as many methods as there are homeschooling families. We started out with a very formal program - a full curriculum we got from a homeschooling program. We did that for two years, as I recall. Over time my parents' views on schooling changed and we a) built our own curriculum, and b) became somewhat more relaxed about schooling in general - incorporating more life experiences and using more "real books" and fewer text books.
I could go on for a long time, but I know it's a tricky subject in a lot of ways since people tend to have strong opinions when it comes to education. ;-)

LOL! That's one good way to kill a troll :) My own usual anti-troll technique is to apply the advice of Monty Python's John Cleese that the best way to annoy a person is to pretend you don't know you're annoying them :) So I pretend I don't know they're trolls and start questioning them politely about their statements, and then every time they say something that's factually wrong I keep questioning them relentlessly Columbo-style ("Oh, just one more thing. . ."), until I eventually get them to say something that leaves the opening for another Freeper to deliver the kill shot.

What you're talking about with the psychology of learning is an area I'm also very interested in. I find that knowing how we learn helps me organize my own learning and teaching--and even my writing--so much more efficiently.

I could go on for a long time, but I know it's a tricky subject in a lot of ways since people tend to have strong opinions when it comes to education. ;-)Feel free to go on if you want!--I'd like to hear more about it :) I like to compare different methods of education so I can learn from each of them. One thing I always wonder about with homeschooling is how the "grades" are set up. When I went to school the grading structure really held me back because I was always learning something at a different level than my grade level, so they'd have to put me in special classes and stuff. I would've been so much happier if I was in a structure where I could learn at my own pace.

Ouch.
I think I've seen that at work once or twice..

If it doesn't make his nose run, it's not hot enough! My philosophy exactly! :) I've noticed that some restaurants will dilute the "hot" from what they'd serve a native Thai if you're not Thai--I guess they think non-Thais can't handle it--so I always make sure to emphasize that I've eaten it before and I want it really hot :)
