I'm lucky, my office is laid back... of course, when we had the Boss From Hell, we had to send: an email when we arrived, an email when we started lunch, an email when we finished lunch, and an email when we left. Oh, and he forbid me from working overtime but expected the same work with 40 hours that he got when I was doing 48. He was a wonderful person to work with, wish I'd loaded his laptop with child pr0n.

And I'm going to bed now, it's late.

Does that help? I'm struggling with "make something happen, everyone's just talking", myself.

Thanks, that helps some--fits with the advice I'm getting from Ben Bova's book on writing SF, which I'm reading now for tips. On the thing you're struggling with, there's some good discussion of that in Monica Wood, Description, Chapters 2 and 4. If you can't find it in your library/bookstore I can write up a summary for you--should probably review that myself anyway. Offhand a couple things I'd suggest are 1) make the talking relate to the action and 2) when people are talking, whenever possible describe them as moving rather than sitting still--like for instance they might be travelling in a car between scenes; this is something I do in my novel so that there's still a sense of motion/progress even during dialogue.

We'd run out of time before we ran out of fun!!

No doubt! :-)

I think Ramius needs to take us for a ride and show us how fast his car really is! :-)

I'll sit out for that one. The only "fast cars" I want to ride in are roller coaster cars! LOL!!

*sigh* I knew it wouldn't last, me being able to hang. Baby's is up and fussing and Becky has just shown me her ear which looks slightly infected behind the earring.

Talk to you all tomorrow!

Oh oh... I hate to hear that about Becky's ear! Myranda would get ear infections from her earrings. Finally had to take em out and let her piercings heal up. She just got them re-pierced this summer. Very sensitive skin...

hehehe...you are too much!

BTW, we are on a metaframe that is all controlled from the network admin side, with all the software residing on the server. The way it's constructed, I probably wouldn't be able to install anything on my PC anyway. And most people don't even have a PC, they just have a Neo, basically a dumb terminal (can't remember the official name of it).

And now, I'd better call it a night so that I can make it back to the loony bin on time in the morning. Thanks for making me laugh about the insanity of it all!

Wow, Jen, sounds like your old boss and mine are related. If my boss was a guy, I'd be suspicious that it was the same person.

The only reason we don't have to check in with email is because we are on a Kronos timeclock system. Clock in, clock out, no overtime, with micromanagement of our time on every level.

I'm really glad you don't have that boss anymore! Now if I could just get rid of mine....

g'night!

Wow! I just got another thing in the mail that tells me I am in a good place as a teacher. I got a note from a former student who used to argue with me in class that we needed gun control laws. This student has gone on further his degree and in one of the classes was required to write a paper on assault weapon bans. And basically the entire position is switched from when he was in my class. Sent me a copy of the paper.... last sentence says, "Give us a way to defend ourselves and the bad guys will think twice."

YES!!!

ummm... it's not on topic of my classes... but I think I've taught something good now!

Ahhh... Citrix Metaframe. That 'splains a lot. You're right, they'll have the workstations locked down pretty tight, if they're smart (but then, we've already addressed that, haven't we?). Sounds like they've got the whole network running on some kind of thin-client architecture.

Metaframe is for L____... oh, nevermind. I so completely detest the attitude that produces such things. It's completely antithetical to my whole world view.

Matter of fact, I think sometimes I challenge them more to think about current affairs than CADD.
