Nothing makes one feel so vulnerable as grandbaby love! (I think when one becomes a parent, it's so overwhelming that there isn't the time to contemplate how fleeting and risky life can be.)
Life is too short to deny ourselves unselfish love in any of its splendid possibilities. But, that said,...
I relish the selfish moments, too. My youngest grandchild is now two, so, like her older siblings, she learned long ago that "you are my special angel, sent from up above, God looked down and smiled on gramma, and sent me < name of grandchild > to love" is the song I sing when I rock her to sleep. Thankfully, this child loves to be rocked and cuddled much more than the others did, so I still occasionally get the selfish peaceful pleasure of holding her on my shoulder as she falls asleep.

Nothing makes one feel so vulnerable as grandbaby love! Baby kisses are like Kryptonite to a full grown man.. I get all fuzzy around my 5 little ones.. my wonderful little boys as well as my beautiful little baby girls.. sigh . . :o)
