The Democrat nominee wins election to the Presidency by a land slide. Pundits and "experts" in shock.

"I don't think we should pound them into the ground either because our government has not had the guts to enforce our laws for the last 40 years."

I think we have gained alot more "guts" over the last two and a half years. We've had to make many changes that people don't like. 9/11 changed everything....everything!!
I wish we didn't have a choice but to watch video of those planes hit those buildings and peoples co-workers have to jump 100 stories knowing they were going to die because THAT was the best option. I wish people saw that every day on television, I don't think they'd forget the way they have. Not you necessarily Centennial, I just think all of the pissy little crap we hear from the left regarding patriot act invasions of rights is getting way to f**ing old!!!

Almost all of them will. Documentation would carry the benefit of being in country legally, drivers licenses, access to all employment and other benefits. Without the threat of being deported for being here illegally most all will go for it. After a grace peroid you start deporting those who do not obtain documents.

I agree. I think it's insulting to law-abiding Hispanics to assume they'd want to be lumped in with illegals.

The term "Hispanics" itself is an illusion - there are many different countries and heritages under that umbrella - and they have their own hierarchy and feelings of whose inferior to whom. Whether it's PC to discuss it or not.

Perception is reality. It is probably dead on arrival but the perception of Bush's proposal will survive for months to come. He may very well regret he ever promoted the idea.

I don't think so. The proposal is not to grant everyone citizenship and the demographics of the illegals requires a game plan that keeps them avoiding deportation. I like the proposal more. It gets people documented so we can account for them. I don't doubt for a moment that the long term plan is to account for them and then control them. But it has to be done in a way that will be successful ultimately. I don't think your approach is the long term solution.

I posted this message to get the attention of Republicans all over the USA to what I see as a potential pit fall. It is not too late to wake up and put a plank in the Republican party platform that includes border security. I know that a lot of important Republicans like Karl Rove and company read this site and take our pulse on issues like this. They have to wake up now.

"Bush should take a clue on what happened in California.." He is definitely a couple of clues short.

Anyone who thinks the Democrats wouldn't do the same as Bush-except ten fold-is dillusional.

But the Crats would have no compunctions whatever about using this as a campaign issue then within 15 minutes of being elected saying gee folks I worked on this harder than on anything ever and we just have to bring in more of them.

Ok, so we document them and then leave the doors to the border open. Just what will that do to stem the tide of close to 1,000,000 illegals crossing the border yearly?

I served a rural parish in WV from '01-'03. W. Virginians vied for the jobs with the fed/state/county gov. If that couldn't be had, especially for those not college educated, the chicken plant was the goal. Native West Virginians, black and white, wanted jobs at the chicken processing plant - no ifs, ands or buts. It was maybe $8/hr. with some barebones benefits.

There were virtually no hispanics in the area in '01 excepting for seasonal migrants working apple orchards in the Mtns. and the VA Shenandoah Valley. By '02 the plant began advertising in Spanish in the regional papers and actively bringing in illegal hispanics, setting them up in trailer parks and paying them under the table. All the while letting natives (i.e. - U.S. Citizens who wanted the same jobs) hit the unemployment line. They even began placing illegals in oversight positions over citizens with seniority, demoting legal workers.

The line that the illegals are only doing jobs no U.S. Citizen would do is bunk. Bringing the Third World to the U.S. is forcing everyone to compete right down to the bottom of the wage bucket.

I have more sense than to vote for Bush simply because he has an "R" next to his name. He is betraying our borders, our Constitution and our way of life.

I don't think that is the strategy. Anyhow, we can proceed with a plan thought out and developed by the administration or centennial. I may be going out on a limb here but I think I'll stick with the admin on this one.

Nonsense. Business works solely upon value. If a person is hard-working he might be paid more than the native-born lazy worker who thinks society owes him a living just for showing up.
