What you mnean is that on at least six occasions Simon got knocked off the play so completely what I mean is that given many offensive formations and shifts, the DT can only reasonably be expected to hold his own and allow the linebacker(s) to make tackles.

Except DTs are not only expected to hold their own and allow linebackers to make the tackle. DTs are expected to penetrate PAST the offensive line and interupt the play in the backfield. Which Simon did NOT do last week because he played poorly.
