Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.

I think I know someone who does this sort of thing. She is always dragging her kids to the doctor with some minor ailment. Usually there isn't any thing wrong at all. I don't think she has gone as far as this woman has, but it has impacted her family adversely. The kids are either complaining of very minor scratches or else heroically denying real complaints as doing so would land them at home in bed. The kids are bundled and cautioned and have virtually no rough and tumble play that is normal for growning kids. I worry about them.

That sounds more like a paranoid over protective mother.

The other kind actually hurt their children to get attention.

Shoot, with my kids, if it aint broken, bleeding, or swollen, I tell them I dont want to hear it. Amazingly I dont get a kid crying to me with the minor aches and pains that are normal. Of course, inside pain that is not the result of injury ie ear and tummy aches are excluded.
