Well isn't that touching...

Okay it is. And I feel bad for her. But girl, what were you doing out there in the first place?

SeeBS pulled another deception on us about Jenna and her sick mom.

The way I see it:

SeeBS asked Jenna to be on the All Star show, she likely said no since her mom was sick, getting worse, and she had already won a Mil.

They tell her puleeeeze be on the show, we need a few more winners, and we will set up a fast retreat home for you and monitor your mom's health every hour. If she gets sick we will notify you immediately, and set up a ruse for the viewers.

She agrees and goes on the show.

9 days later, the news comes to SeeBS that Jenna's mom is fading.

Jenna suddenly, out of the blue, has this "feeling" and wants off the show. Her teammates make absolutely no effort to stop her and keep her going as you would expect. They all mysteriously seem to understand - to a point.

They all go to the challenge and she almost spills the beans about actually hearing so much detail and Probst has to interfere to allow her to backtrack, and he is surprisingly, and comfortingly, not mad like he was with The Quitter.

They whisk her off and Jenna's "premonition" comes true. Her mother dies 8 days later.

I am sorry for her mother's death, and she should not have let SeeBS cut a deal into an important segment of her life.

I hope you are wrong because that is just sick.

Why did they want her so badly though? It wasn't as if she was that popular. Personally I would have prefered Gina.

Well she's young, only about 22 or so, and is no Einstein.

SeeBS talked her into it - this is where the sickness resides.

SeeBS wanted her on the show at any cost, both as a past winner and a woman. To hell with any other consideration. I think Probst was really concerned and may not have been too happy about the situation. IMHO Probst is a self-centered idiot, but he was showing concern, real or faked. He may have been hiding his joy at the prospect of having this heart-wrenching situation happen to help ratings of Survivor.

During the recent SuperBowl we saw the depths to which SeeBS will go for ratings.

Well, I was in the same boat she was in. When you have a loved one dying, you tend to go in a bit of denial, mostly as a coping mechanism. I'm glad she left, and I can understand why she did the game. Its some pretty heavy stuff, and it ain't easy to handle, because stuff like this doesn't happen (thankfully) often in your life.

Survivor Ping

I'm sorry there wasn't a pre-show ping, my access was cut for a period today due to an issue with NetworkSolutions. (grumble) Come by the thread if you'd like to talk about the show, I'll post my summary tomorrow morning.

First thoughts after seeing the episode..

Log cabin shelter? Rupert, Rupert, Rupert... Did you forget your time in the swamp so soon?

I'm a bit disturbed by Jenna M's leaving; the 'sneakers' who supply the spoiler sites pegged her return home early on, but not the circumstances of that departure. I don't think that CBS, as some have suggested, fed Jenna any information.. The four days without fire, drinking rain water, past winners being voted out, a very strong tribe, a pretty good storm, plus of course the repeated questions from the camera people about anything and everything.

I don't think that she used her mother as an excuse, but I do think it made the decision easier.

Anyway, I'm going to watch the Survivor Insider stuff on CBS.com now. An interesting episode..

" An interesting episode.."

Actually I thought it was pretty lame as far as excitement.
Rupert had a brain fart, and Jenna had a family emergency.

And the reward prize was wanting also.

But, the exercise of survival is grueling with the bugs!

Not much of a shark, I see little nurse sharks like that all the time, pretty harmless. But if you grab them by their tails and try to kill them, they will bite, but not dangerous or deadly. Jellyfish are much more nasty.

They said her mother died 8 days after she left. I think Jenna made a wrong decision to even do the all-star survivor.

The funny thing about this survivor is that Boston Rob isn't bugging me. He did a good job building his shelter. It's like he's a different guy.

Rupert made some mistakes this time around. Colby is doing mighty fine. I also like Kathy and Shi-Ann. Actually, I like everyone in that tribe except Jenna. Lex, Colby, Richard, Kathy, and Shi-Ann are all good strong players.

That big ole' boy played it out for all he could!

I would presume from your post, that you live near a salt water coast. (very envious)

Anyway, I look forward to a more competitive episode next week!

5 hour drive from San Diego, 4 hour drive from Mexico, and a hell of a lot closer by air.

So far, I'm disappointed with this Survivor game. Expected more fireworks or something I guess. Think that having three tribes is what is the main problem. One hour isn't enough time to show interaction among the individual tribes.

And Rupert, what the he** are you thinking? He is disappointing this time.

When Jenna and Shi-ann prattled off their stupid list of things for the hut to the guys, I laughed my head off. That blank stare they got from the guys, was classic. I have to employ that blank stare all the time at work, its essentially: "keep talking, I ain't listening because you are stupid, once you finish blabbering, I can resume my work"

I disagree. What she told Kathy was that her mother was in a Cancer Rehab Center. I would have assumed that meant that her mother was recovering from some major procedure and was in a very good recovery program (Jenna had just won a million dollars last year). If she had said a hospice center, or something like that, I would be in complete agreement.

I also don't discount the idea that she could literally feel her mother getting worse and worse. I've seen this within my own family, there is just a sort of bond where you know that something bad is happening.

Her mother probably encouraged her to go out and do her best and she would see her when she got back, after all, it was only a 39 day event. Jenna left on day 8, barely a week after the competition started. If her mother was on a downward slope before the show started, she would likely not have gone.

I agree. Someone was feeding her information. And they let her go, rather than keeping her sequestered on "loser's island." So she at least had a special deal for that.

Why would they want her to be on the show so badly? I think cause she was a winner that a lot of people didn't really like too much. So there is some satisfaction to be had in seeing her eventual comeuppance.

But mostly cause the girl likes to take her clothes off. That's never bad for ratings.
