It would be pretty unusual, however, to come 'down' from a manic episode into a depression so quickly... between the incident and the filing of charges was just a day or two? A mixed state episode is not the same as a full-blown mania, it tends to make the sufferer more angry and hostile than anything, but not delusional.

Yes, I know what I'm talking about.

The whole "manic-depressive" argument is so convenient for the defense, it basically tries to explain away anything that happened. She was delusional, she was a nympho, she was so sex-hungry that she planned it all out in advance by putting him into his own room.

Of course, then why she would say "no" at all at any time during the incident doesn't make any sense, but I'm sure the defense will find some docs who will say she "cycled out" during the act itself. Far be it that the guy went too far, she resisted, and a rape occurred anyway. So nice and simple, it explains anything away, she was cooked the minute she entered the room because, well, she's just sick and just liable to do anything and how was poor Kobe to know?

This whole line of defense is clever and the defense must think it won the lottery, turning it all around to make Kobe the victim instead of her, a very pat conclusion. Unfortunately for the defense, he could have raped her regardless, but this does cloud the issues and make it a little more difficult to prove if he did it.

Not unusually in light of the fact that she was using Seroquel, which is an antipsychotic often given to "fast-cyclers" and the Buproprion which is an atypical antidepressant med, meaning that whomever was treating this young woman knew she was a fastcycler (Seroquel), and was worried about her falling into depression (Buproprion). Therefore, if a fast cycler at risk for depression ( or depressed) would go off these med's, her moods would move quite unpredictably, especially towards mania because she had been using Bruproprion (which is structurally related to Methylphenidate [Ritilin]), which after a few half-lives the buprprion would have made her "crash" into depression easily (think about what happens to people who use psychostimulants, then stop, what are they at risk for?), especially in light of the fact that she is also a fast-cycler off of her Seroquel.

Yes, I know what I'm talking about.

So do it :-)
