January 14, 2004 -- DENVER, Colo. - Kobe Bryant's accuser allegedly suffers from bipolar disorder - and may have been in such a "manic state" at the time of the reputed attack that it boosted her sex drive and willingness to bed someone, the defense is charging. The basketball star's legal team, in court papers released yesterday, quotes John Ray Strickland, one of the accuser's ex-love as saying she is bipolar.

"It would be relevant if the only indication there might have been rape is some signs of rough sex --- how can you possibly know whether the bruises are from one of the 50 or the accused? I think there is already a problem with the semen/DNA evidence in this case --- apparently it wasn't Kobe's".

You make my point. The facts may well say he is innocent of rape. The issues of her previous sexual behavior or mental state do not.

There are a number of reasons why I tend to believe Kobe is guilty. Among them, his lawyer Mackey's acts such as the way she insisted on bringing up the victim's name. Mackey has no credibility and his hurting Kobe's case.

Exactly. She is defending as if he is guilty, not as if the facts are on her side. She makes up things out of thin air and says crazy things about two prescription drugs.

In that press conference not once did his wife say, "He's innocent." Instead, she did not say a single word, glared at him. Obviously she did not think he was innocent. Then there was the ring -- a very stupid PR move. This seems to be a rerun of the Willie Kennedy Smith case.

True. Kobe fans want it to be a repeat of the OJ trial.

If you were arguing about the William Kennedy Smith rape trial, I could get on your side. Roy Black was plying his trade to a jury that was prejudicial to acquittal. The press was also prejudicial to acquittal, and the facts were just a sidebar, in the juror's acquittal.

This case should never have gotten this far, and in my humble opinion, should be plea bargained down. Alas, the prosecutor is past the point of no return.

I agree 100%, thanks for stating it so succinctly. The only issue I have on this thread is with people thinking this medical argument is some kind of magic bullet. It isn't, a rape could or could not have occurred regardless.

"I'm with the team that wants the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth"

"Bull! He's convicted in your mind already. The only truth you want is the "truth" that validates your opinion.

End of story".

The pot calling the kettle black?

Hi,

There is good news about BPD in that it tends to become less severe over time. I presume it has something to do with the sufferer learning what behavior is and isn't acceptable (say, after they've driven away all their friends and family). The bad news is that it is very difficult to convince them to seek treatment. Unless they are motivated to do it themselves it won't do any good. Also getting them to realize that there's a problem is difficult. Good luck.

No, I mean not "like" any other case. I mean this one. If he is found not guilty, will you concede that he is possibly not guilty, or will you maintain that he bought his acquittal?

The defense itself is saying she was delusional. If you want to argue in the alternative, feel free. I will stick with the facts as presented.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but has it occurred to you that the reason the facts may say he's innocent is because he is and that her previous sexual behavior and mental state caused her to make a false claim?

I don't see how you could say her previous state doesn't have something to do with his innocence if the facts bear him out.

And you now have resorted to out and out lying to make your case; nobody said she was delusional.

You did in post #103!!

More proof Kobe fans don't want a trial. What if he raped her, you want him to get off without a trial?

The defense said "MAY" since you pointed it out.

But that is not their only defense.

But nobody on this thread, which is what WE are concerned with, is saying she is delusional.

Heck, I don't even think her medication had anything to do with it; I think she sleeps around and somebody caught her and now she's crying rape.

The laws of Colorado are not at all condusive to plea bargaining.

The word "Draconian" comes to mind.
