Whilst discussing the merits of the newly-proposed Bush space plan on another site, this subject came up.

Is it:
a. an asteroid impact site?
b. one of the largest nickel mines in the world?
c. formerly one of the largest sources of sulfur dioxide in North America?
d. an indication of where our resources in space exploration really should be going? or
e. all of the above?

For me, the answer is (e).

Looks like a low-angle asteroid impact.

Well, since it is in fact b. and c., I'll say e.

My dad worked at the Big Nickle Mine back in the 50's. He drilled the holes for the TNT, it totally wrecked his high pitch hearing.

That's Lake Wanapitei, the big one, in the upper left. Some of the most beautiful canoeing territory in the world is north of Lake Wanapitei and towards the northeast in the Temagami wilderness.

Many of the lakes to the northeast are "dead lakes" with no algae, hence no fish as a result of acid rain from the smelters at Sudbury.

Beautiful crystal clear water with bright white rocky shorelines.

Do you know who grew up in Sudbury, just south of Lake Wanapitei?

I'll give you a couple hints:

a) He's a television celebrity
b) Remember to phrase your answer as a question.
