In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

arrogate \AIR-uh-gayt\,verb:
arrogating, arrogates, arrogated; transitive verb
arrogative; adjective
arrogatively; adverb
arrogation, arrogator; noun

1. To claim or seize without right or justification; to appropriate.
2. To ascribe on behalf of another in an unwarranted manner.
3. To assume, or claim as one's own, unduly, proudly, or presumptuously; to make undue claims to, from vanity or baseless pretensions to right or merit

The most sinister dimension of this form of 'terror' was that it became an intrinsic component of Fascist and Nazi governance, executed at the behest of, and in complete subservience to, the ruling political party of the land -- which had arrogated to itself complete, total control of the country and its people.
--Bruce Hoffman, Inside Terrorism

Etymology [Latin arrog re, arrog t- : ad-, ad- + rog re, to ask; see reg- in Indo-European Roots.]

"...a gunrack, atro-turf , and Confederate..."

At first I thought it said afro-turf, as in:
It's just like Astro-Turf, only ...

Typo's are so much fun! I laugh at my fingers frequently. Sometimes they have a better sense of humor than I do.
(Careful now! They are very sensitive.)

The Rev. AL sharpton was on the rock station being interviewed this AM. he would like to arrogate the Democratic nominee position to himself, by winning the DC primary which is tomorrow. His point in visiting here this week is that you can't be FOR DC statehood and not treat DC like a state. God, what a nightmare that would be. DC statehood./ shudder

"...treat DC like a state..."

Living in Maryland, I keep hearing about this. The original district was two pieces, one on each side of the river. Virginia got her piece back. Nobody is talking about making Alexandria a state.

Maybe Maryland should take back the district, but we'd need a lot of bulldozers to clean the place up again.

he was NOT funny at all in the interview, i was majorly disappointed, i had to come in late today and heard he would be on a bit after 8 and was so psyched. But he postponed the interview for like 5 min bc he had to stop for cold medicine, so i guess he is a sicky... The DJs were complimenting him on his SATnightlive performance and said he really could DANCE, and he said well bill clinton could blow the horn and i can do a good James Brown... LOL!

that is the ONLY solution is to give DC to maryland, at least they are both Dem strongholds and it would not add anything to that column.

he also said that there has been no ugliness between the potential dem nominees, no matter how pointed and sharp their exchanges in the debates. i guess he reamed the teapot last night for claiming to be all about race issues, but not having any blacks/browns in his cabinet in his LONG tenure as VT gov. The DJ was hoping for stories of hairpulling and brawling afterwards, but apparently there were none. very disappointing.
