A Scottish Christmas? More details will be appreciated since I have not had the pleasure of sharing Christmas on the British Isles.

When my son and daughter were small we would play Bible Trivia...my son's question (he was about 7 at the time) was..."and there were shepherds abiding in the fields keeping watch over their flocks by...."? There was a little pause, his little wheels in his head were turning...then he said...helicoptor? I have loved this for years. I know ...it's a Mom thing.

here's the compendium of christmas in the charles household... Three weeks before christmas, my mom would soak fruits for the black cake, currants,cherries,things like that in rum (Vat 19 or Old Oak).

We also made black pudding and pastels (same thing as the pastie).

The Guiness stout would drunk alone OR was mixed with evaporated and condensed milk as a cold beverage. I've had that since I was little.

All this merry making is a hundred times more involved back in the old country. In Trinidad, Christmas merry making start at least week before and finishes on Boxing Day.

I know exactly what your talking about, but our honey balls are the size of marbles. You simply cannot stop eating them once you start. The above recipe makes approximately 800 little honey balls. I believe what you're thinking of is more in line with something Martha Stewart might tackle, stacked high on a footed platter and drizzled with spun sugar - not quite something Quilla and her little sister would tackle. ;-)

Thanks for the sharing...being of Scottish extraction...I have made it a custom to wear my clan's tartan sash to church on the Sunday before Christmas and New Year's.
