At one time I travelled extensively all over SW Kansas, S Alabama and Tidewater Virginia. I always carried a survival kit.

Now I seldom get more than 30 miles away from home.

I live in a large brick house in the Florida panhandle. It is well supplied with normal food in the fridge and freezer. Have a generator to power the pump only. In a pinch we could use it for everything but would use up the gas supply too soon.

The house would make a pretty good fortress but no real thought of that ever being a reality.

I have a carrier above the head of the pickup for a short barreled shotgun. It is in plain view but no one ever notices it up there. I also keep an old CZ 52 with two spare mags. It penetrates well which would be likely in a vehicle to vehicle confrontation. Also cheap enough that I wouldn't cry if it were stolen.

Agree....... I learned as to what I would need by just walking out to the alley and shutting off the water and then the main power to the house. Small things like a wood stove , baygen radio with the LED light and lots of progresso soup have merit. I figure that terrorism will not hit me or my town but it's implications are already upon me and my small town with the mere threat. That threat of federal goobermint bean counters and alphabet agencies making me and mine stand in line for a handout led me to prepare my dwelling for self reliance and off grid survivablilty.

I also have an old VW baja bug that I converted to propane use. Propane can be stored forever and not go bad. My gensets work off the same propane. But I have no plans to travel at all but if I do have to go about locally my bicycle, my KLR650 or that little Baja bug have great range and everlasting durability.

A lot of comfort can be drawn from a warm fire, a small alert pup and a 12 gauge when individual security is questionable. All said and done I can do more service to my country these days with my digital camera and a cellular phone when I see something suspect as I PROFILE suspect activity. The firearm I carry is just in case they get bitchy or catch me taking their pic and such and I can't E & E my way out of danger.

Stay Safe !!

Interesting you should mention the old Czech-O-Matic!

Where we have been researching some potential safety issues with these interesting guns.

Given appropriate JHP rounds for this old "Pocket Carbine", it would make a very capable tactical carry piece; although not commonly available, some small outfits are beginning to roll some good tac loads and of course us reloaders are coming up with some pretty impressive loadings for 'em too.

For around $100 to a C&R FFL or Dealer (+ a small transfer fee, usually around $30 through a Class 1 Dealer) the CZ-52 is a heck of a bargain; some Shooters claim that it will outshoot and is more reliable than their Glock!

And don't let that that little .30 cal. hole at the end fool you;
The old 7.62 X 25mm packs considerably more whallop than a 9MM, with a 90-grain bullet snapping out @ around 16,500 FPS and generating over 500# of ME! Users report shattering engine blocks as well as penetrating both sides of a kevlar vest and on through both sides of the junk car it was hung on - and from my own observations I tend to believe them.

Touch one off downrange some time and see how it'll get your attention! The first time I fired mine under a covered firing line last Winter, it set off an avalanche of snow off of the roof!
Wear plenty of ear protection!

I have found that the more streamlined contours of the CZ are significantly more comfortable to pack CWC than the M-1911-A1, despite their similar size and weight.

I might cry if someone nipped my CZ-52, since I've about doubled the cost of it in aftermarket accessories, I have become rather fond of it, and I certainly would not want some gremlin running around with it!

If you can't take it with you and have to leave it unattended in the vehicle, I'd reccomend popping the slide off (easy to do with this design) and taking that; at least a gremlin is not so apt to rob or kill anybody with a frame, and is unlikely to pick up a new slide & barrel at the 5 and dime.

Unless you are in the PRK, they shouldn't lock you up for carrying a concealed gun part. Then again...(?)

Speaking of SD for the budget-minded; Bulgarian Tokarevs are a super deal right now, and those who have them rave about their reliability. The 9 X 18MM round is fairly available from a number of sources, and is just about as capable as the 9mm Para or .38 Special.
