HOWDY FREEPERS!!!!!!
On Friday, the Wall Street Journal composed and editorial which contrasted tort system in Texas with the one here in Oklahoma.
As part of this edtorial, WSJ featured a letter that was written by State Senator Pro-Tem Stratton Taylor.
The letter begins:
"With recent events that have occured in Texas, you may be looking to file cases in Oklahoma. I wanted to take an opportunity to introduce you to our law firm".
The WSJ stated in it's editorial that Taylor's letter "is in essence an invitation for the entire national tort bar to 'forum shop' in Oklahoma, a state that just can't say no to jackpot justice."
I agree with those sentiments, here are my other thoughts on this subject.
Our state has already become the laughingstock of this nation because of the antics of our state elected officials. This was clearly one of the dumbest and most idiotic of stunts I've ever seen in my life. It's quite obvious that Mr. Taylor seems to care more about his econimic future than that of our state. What he has done is only going to excascerbate things.
I want to assure all businesses looking to move to another state that Senator Taylor does not speak for the vast majority of Oklahomans nor are his values Oklahoma values. As a lifelong resident of this state I can tell you that we are a state that believes in the concept of tort reform, lower taxes, limited goverment, free enterprise and a storng military.
Oklahoma can choose to become that state of choice for business or it can choose to become the state of choice for trial lawyers, lawsuits and "jackpot justice". We can't be the choice for both. I can assure you that we the voters of Oklahoma will remember this when we go to the polls in November. Some heads are going to be rolling. Simply put it's time to throw the bums out.
As the Daily Oklahoman closed their Editorial on this subject yesterday. "Texas has shwon that tort reform shouldn't be done piecemeal. Like the song in the musical, it's an "All Er Nuthin" deal.
I laugh...but I believe they will challenge term limits in court in the very near future.
FRegards,
As far as I am concerned, it is always time to throw the bums out. Let them eat time clocks, and get real jobs.
It's my understanding that this eidtorial is at the Opinion Journal but unfortunately you have to sign up to access it and I think it costs to access anything on that website.
