He played a little fast and loose with the books story especially near the end but it works and if your a fan of the book you'll over look these changes. For the non fanatic the changes work.

There are some minor special effects problems near the end of the film. Without giving a spoiler it has to do with Gollum and Mt Doom. There are a couple of other shots near the end when you can tell it’s a stand in for Frodo. Overall you’ll enjoy it if you liked the other two.

I'll see it again a couple times in the theater and buy the extended versions when it comes out.

They gave Andy Serkis some time on the screen as a human rather than the way it was done in the last movies. One of the reasons that he didn’t get an award for his performance in the last movie was that he didn’t appear on the screen at all. Since all you saw was the animation from his amazing performance in the motion capture suit he couldn’t be considered from best supporting actor. This time they have a bit about Smeagol and how he came to get the ring. That will be enough to allow his performance to be considered.

Mr. Serkis definitely got gypped last year. He NAILED that role.

Can you believe Mortgansen played a gung-ho SEAL in "GI Jane"? As SNL's Master Thespian used to say, "Acting!"

Might need a new catagory.
