A Trick For Avoiding Double Posts

You've written a nice long post that took you awhile to complete (or perhaps another smartass one-liner). You hit the preview button, and it looks good. Then you hit the post button and:
The page cannot be displayed
There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.
The question is....did it post, or did it not post? If it did, and you hit that post button again, you're going to get a double post, and people are going to talk about you. :)
If it didn't, and you don't hit that button....you lost your work. >:o
Did it, or didn't it? Here's how you find out.
Open the main page in another window. Click the "My Comments" link. If it posted, it will show up. Cancel the "cannot be displayed window" and proceed.
If it doesn't show up, hit that post button again. If you get the "cannot be displayed" message again, refresh the "My comments" page on the other window.
TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: doublepost
The main question is: what's the over/under on multiple responses on this thread? >:)

Thanks for the info.
Sometimes though, the double posts get the most laughs...... :-)

Cool idea. I've never thought of that.

On a related but not quite related note...
I use a great freeware program called Yankee Clipper that keeps a record of the last 200 entries you copied to the clipboard.
It also has a "boilerplate" function that allows you to 'shoot' the html strings you use the most right into the window you're working on.
For example, if you post links a lot then the following string is a pain to type out each time:
<a HREF=" "> </a>
With Yankee Clipper III, you would have this string in your boilerplate, hilight it then hit the "shoot" button and after a 3-4 second delay it will paste it into the window you're working on. Then all you do is use the same technigue to fill in the URL and the text you want to show up. I used this technique to make the following link:
Click here to download Yankee Clipper III.
There's a lot more this program can do. I can't Freep without it anymore.

I've seen a post that repeated itself 15 times. Bumped the hell out of that thread. :)

The Composer html editor with Mozilla and Netscape Communicator eliminates the need to deal with any of that, for me. Plus I can move pictures around, etc, before posting.
The only time I type directly into the reply box is for short posts, like this one. Also, the editor makes skipping the preview function much safer.
