Hey Spooks! Interesting science project going on here.

My breeder gave me his 'freeby' live food sample from his supplier. There are silkworms.

Instead of feeding them to my lizards, I looked them up online and dropped them into our butterfly pavillion.

They are silkworms! The same that are mass breed in Asia to make silk.

Unlike butterfly larvae, they are ugly

But watching them spin to a cocoon was FASCINATING!!!

The catepillars actually stood up vertical and sprayed silk thread into the air so it fell over them

And touching the thread, it is as strong as material (well, duh, that is what is spun into clothing...) but it is really interesting!

There are many sites out there where you can order the larvae and/or eggs. I recommend! My cocoons haven't hatched yet; but they are do within the next few days.
