Here are a few from one of the sites. Enjoy.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Many viewers reported that they spotted a car in the background of the theatrical version when Sam says he's the furthest from the Shire he's ever been. This car was actually taken out of the DVD version of the Fellowship but can still supposedly be seen on the VHS version.
-Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Gimli attempts to smash the ring with an axe which is completely destroyed, breaking into several pieces. In the next shot the pieces are missing and, when he pledges his axe to Frodo several minutes later, his axe is suddenly intact. In fact, he snatches the axe of the dwarf next to him to attack the ring.
-Revealing mistakes: As Frodo runs from the orcs, his cape is clearly supported by a string to make it look flowing.
-Continuity: As Boromir lies dying, Aragorn leans over him. In the shots over Aragorn's shoulder, looking at Boromir, Boromir's right hand rests on Aragorn's left shoulder. In shots looking at Aragorn, the hand is not there.
-Continuity: While the four hobbits (Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin) are at The Prancing Pony in Bree, Merry returns from the bar with a pint and Pippin takes off to get his own. When the angle changes to an over-head shot, Merry is no longer at the table and Pippin is suddenly back in place.

Back in Fellowship, when they're climbing the slopes of Khazad-Dum, Frodo slips, and in the ensuing close-up of his feet, you can very clearly see where the furry hobbit foot is glued onto his leg.
I have the original theatrical release (Xena's Guy ripped it the first day it was out), and there is indeed a very visible car zooming to the right behind Frodo and Sam when they're in the field.

Deliberate "mistake": When the Nazgul confront Arwen across the river, they draw their swords in their left hands. In the next shot this changes to their right. someone able to explain why this is listed as 'deliberate'?
Great sites, btw. Thanks.

When they're entering Moria, he reappears.

In TTT: After the Warg attack, when they approach Helms deep, Eowyn isn't carrying anything. In the next shot, taken from inside Helms Deep, when Eowyn walks in, she is carrying a 'back pack' looking basket. Anybody else notice that?
Also, in the first movie, after Frodo recovers at Rivendell, there is a shot of him standing at a bannister (not sure what you call it) outside overlooking the beautiful scenery in Rivendell. The bannister should reflect how short Frodo is. It should come up to about his chin. Especially given the fact that elves are tall. As it is shown, it comes up to about his waist.

The pony, I'm pretty sure his name was Bill :), was something I'd hope they might expand upon in the extended DVD but they didn't. (IIRC, they never introduced the pony until the scene outside Moria, right?) I wonder if they might show Sam "finding" him when he returns to the Shire in ROTK like he did in the books. Either way, though I doubt the casual observer thought much of it, those who know the books well most likely caught the problem with the scene(s).

Maybe this is an error, maybe not...
When the party is boating down the Anduin in the first movie and Legolas gets the bad vibes from an Uruk Hai, the directions they look seem wrong.
Legolas proceeds to look to his left (so I seem to recall). If he was going downstream, that would mean he was looking at the east bank. The Uruk Hai looks to his right. If they were moving south, then that would mean he was looking west, placing him on the east bank. That seems backwards to me. Legolas should have looked right and the Uruk Hai should have looked left, since the Uruk were traveling south on the west bank.
That make any sense?
Anyone else wonder upon this?

I thought the same thing.
I thought I had stumbled upon a MAJOR screw-up in TTT. After Gandalf appears in Fangorn and they are getting ready to ride to Edoras, Gandalf has an elvish cloak like the ones Galadriel gave to the Fellowship. But, I thought, Gandalf was "lost" in Moria BEFORE the rest of them went into Lothlorien.
I wrote one of the blooper websites but they said that in the book, Gandalf visits Galadriel after he defeats the Balrog and she gives him a cloak.
I didn't recall that. Oh well.

Any listing of "mistakes" should wait til after people see the original (extended) cuts of the movies on DVD. Some of the things people think they spot as goofs are really just the result of editing and shot-swapping for time.

Heh, heh! :-) The biggest blooper I saw actually made it into The Two Towers: Viggo fights a pack of giant rottweilers, jumps off a cliff, winds up in an Enya video, and finally makes out with a HORSE! And they left it IN! What's up with that?!? ;-)

Watch the DVD carefully, especially the extended cut DVD.
Bill the Pony first appears after they leave Bree. He is with them when they leave Rivendell. He is with them when they try crossing over the mountain, but given the angles shot at, you can barely seem him (they are using a "pantomime pony" rather than a live pony for the mountain locations since it was too hard to transport the live pony).
Look closely, especially at the extended cut DVD. Bill the Pony is there, it is just that he isn't always very visible depending on the camera angle.
Listen to some of the commentary on the DVD. They talk about Bill the Pony quite a bit.

Listen to the commentary on the extended DVD. They talk about Bill the Pony. Yes, he is in every scene, including on the mountain, but he isn't always very visible. Some scenes, he is a two-person "pantomime pony" so obviously they chose not to make Bill very visible.

Thanks for the info. I don't have the eDVD yet, though I do own the original theater releases. I'm waiting to see what they do after the entire series has been released. I have watched both eDVD movies with friends but didn't listen to the commentary. Still, one has to wonder why they only mentioned Bill in the scene outside Moria. Or did I miss something in the eDVD?
