BOTTOM LINE: How Will YOU Prepare for Trilogy Tuesday?
Personal anticipated need | 12/9/2003 | Daniel J. Phillips (BibChr)

Posted on 12/09/2003 7:57:12 AM PST by BibChr

This inquiry is addressed only to two kinds of people:

  1. Those who have experienced having to sit for upwards of 10-12 hours; and/or
  2. Those who plan to attend Trilogy Tuesday on December 16, 2003.

Yes, FRiends and neighbors, the long-awaited day is coming. Next Tuesday, some of us are planning to see back-to-back theatrical showings of the Extended Editions of Fellowship of the Rings and The Two Towers, followed by the premier of the third and last installment: The Return of the King!

This promises to be a lot of fun.

It also promises to be, well... painful.

Particularly if your nether region has been in place for upwards of forty years.

So I am inviting advice, pointers, tips, and any other displays of sagacity.

Particularly, I am interested in what has in fact worked for you in the past. If you have clinical data and double-blind studies to back it up, all the better. It is one thing to say, "Maybe a pillow will help," and another to be able to testify, "I had a forty-seven hour flight from Albuquerque to Mbtitsubweebwee, and a Walmart 2.75" medium foam magenta cushion from aisle 12 saved my butt!"

So, please, share. The specificker, the better.

Oh, feel free to rag on me. I'm eminently raggable.

I'm honestly not sure how to choose Chat; I've always posted all my threads the same way, and you're the first murmur of protest (and really, that's cool; you have a good point).

I could argue it's news-related; but truly, if it gets moved, I'll not shed a tear.

I'm honestly not sure how to choose Chat;

When you post, you post to the forum you are currently viewing. So, if you are in the chat (general interest) forum when you click on "Post Article" you will post to chat; if you are in the News forum when you click "Post Article" you will post to News.

I can't wait to see ROTK, but I doubt my wife will go for advance tickets for the 12:01 AM showing and staying up all night to see the first showing at our theater. Thus, I probably won't get to see it until the 19th or 20th. But I WOULD take vacation time to see the marathon viewing you get if I could.

I'm taking a 1 liter bottle of water and a couple of packs of peanutbutter crackers for the first 2 movie and Subway is giving us a free sub for the break around 5pm. Then, another 1 liter bottle of water for the rest of the evening.

No popcorn + no soda = no potty breaks

Have learned some yoga exercises that I can do sitting in the chair to prevent cramps/bloodclots/soreness.

Looking forward to it, but realizing it will be physically demanding and preparing for that aspect. (Seat near aisle will have people walking over you, but will also allow for quick exit and re-entry if said potty break is needed.)

Apparently you've been moved to chat somewhere around post #19 or 20.

NO coffee before. (If in the evening no beer, which is more of a sacrifice for some than others). Stretch out first (seriously).

And remember - peeing on one's neighbor is very rude, so practice it in moderation.

So, how early do you recommend lining up for The Return of the King, midnight showing?

Hm. For The Two Towers, some people started the day before, I think. I believe we started about two hours or so. If I learn otherwise, I'll get back to you.

I rather think this will be BIGGER than TTT was, turnout-wise.

Personally, I'm cutting off all liquids at midnite on Monday.

Seriesly, I'm not too worried about sitting there. The theater we're going to is fairly comfortable (stadium seating).

I think I'll be pumped enough that I won't notice any discomfort.

*even as sick with a cold as she is right now, manages a laugh cause of the picture* That is an AWESOME edit job, whoever did that deserves major kudos!

I prolly won't be able to see it in the theaters (read my tagline and realize it's just me and two sons under the age of 7) Dunno what the deal with overseas showings will be, I know my husband will want to see it but it looks like he's gonna have to wait a while...

I am not going, but I will be watching the other two at home before going! I am a little envious! and also feel a little lucky that I don't have to be in the whole theater 12 hours! - Can I post on the thread?

<< Can I post on the thread? >>

NO!!!!

Yes, of course, dear HOTdog... as long as you don't lecture me about Faramir. (c;

I'd like to hear from more who have ever done anything like this, or know anything about it.

I decided I just couldn't do it.... I Sooo want to enjoy RoTK and not be sick of sitting when it starts.

If I were you, I would watch FoTR, duck out for dinner halfway through TTT, miss the part of TTT you hate anyway, while resting up for the main attraction!

It's clever, but if I ducked out on what I really HATE in TTT, that'd only allow me a few minutes! Maybe one drumstick! If I already have waiting in my car!
