I never liked the original series, and so did not watch enough of the shows to get hooked... IMHO the new version is better than the typical "made for SciFi Network" show, but as others have mentioned, the cliche meter is pegged...

also much more of a focus on the maintenance crews that keep the fighters going. A nice nod to a much underappreciated part of any military.

I've flown those space fights a 1000 times in the Wing Commander series of games. Right down to chasing nuclear missles away from a carrier. You and Wing Commander. Me and Freespace 2.

Do it. You'll never bother with network television again, except for the local news or weather.

Actually it's more along the lines of not watching it because of PC gone amuck. Anytime a show replaces key players in order to be PC it's garbage in my book. No different then the Libs trying to change the color of the firemen who raised the 9/11 flag.
Kids watching this show, and it's primary target is the teen demographic, will come away with a strong message that in some battles there's no negotiation, no appeasement, and the goal is something as simple as survival.
Nothing liberal about that.
the new actors don't detract from the show in the slightest. Indeed they force you to take the show on its own merits instead of a tired "been there done that" remake.

whoops there goes Stands With a Fist. hmm, thought she was a keeper. Anyway I could do without the overdone Apollo-Adama Father-Son Issues Cliche.

"Good good stuff so far. If you absolutely loved the original, you won't like it. but if you remember that the original was 1970's space schlock, you will like the way they fixed things." I had a love/hate relationship with the old one. One thing I hated, which is also what Star Trek did (the newer versions), was to "humanize" the enemy. They had a couple episodes where a Ceylon robot acted like a humorous human cowboy and helped Starbuck. I hated the show after that.
Shoot, you put an enemy up there for us to hate and have reason for rooting for the home team, then you "humanize" them to show they're just like us when you know they weren't when they attacked us. Just too PC.
Real life isn't like that, is it? The arab terrorists bomb our women and children, and some among us try to humanize them by saying they're like us. But it ain't happening. Battlestar Gallactica is a hint of what's coming in reality, here on our home ground.

Some folks are bound to hate it, some folks will like it. Not much point in arguing back and forth. I think its quite good myself.

It's sorta been weirding me out. Not at all what I expected.
Prefer the SG-1 stuff alot more.
This is a "give it time" kinda thing. It may grow on me.

I always wondered whether Janeway was modeled after Jimmy Carter... Kate Mulgrew was a rabid Gore supporter - it figures...
To: delapaz
Guessing that somehow at least Apollo got out of it. He may have bailed in his viper. They haven't resolved their father-son thing yet.
To: RandallFlagg
I hope they just killed off that stupid Secretary of Education. "Oh, we're going to save these people! Those nasty Cylons, they wouldn't dare destroy us!" She just killed everyone because she couldn't see when it was time to cut her losses. Typical bleeding heart lib. Moron.
To: delapaz
Well, let's hope that it truly was a 50 megaton nuke that took them out, and not just a sensor glitch...
