When we moved to northern Maine in 1983 for Loring Air Force Base, we had a Republican Governor. Governor Brennan. Then, Kernan, Olympia Snow's hubby, was voted in. He served one term. Then came good old Guv King..........Independent. He served 8 years. He took the budget lower then low.
This past election, Guv Baldacci was elected. A DemocRAT.
Maine is run by liberals through and through. And none of them want to see Maine get ahead. We have lost more big businesses then I can even mention here.
They have imposed higher cigarette taxes in order to balance their budget, but when Maine smokers found alternate ways to buy cigarettes and not pay into Maine coffers, this pissed off the Maine lawmakers. So in 1999, they imposed a smoking ban on all the restaurants. Many of them have since folded.
Now, they are passing this total LEVEL PLAYING FIELD in January forcing ALL taverns/bars/sports bars and I believe Bingo halls to go smoke free.
I often wonder why they don't have the balls to just ban tobacco and just pull it off the shelves! I bet THAT would get the peoples attention in this state!
Too many Mainers consider our lawmakers little Gods, and just sit on their hands doing nothing to fight them. Which makes the believers all SHEEPLE.
