I received a cable modem as part of a free trial. I LOVE IT! Now I can pester FR with more posts, more hasty responses, etc. The fun will be terrorizing the libs.
Seriously, are there any FReepers who use high speed access? What do you love about it? Hate about it,etc. I'd like to hear about anyone's experience with any kind of broadband situation.

I used to listen to Larry Elder and WABC took himn off in NY. I can't believe how fast it is. I can listen to KABC, download mad amounts of music, and all that. It's great.

We switched to DSL in August and I hope we don't ever have to go back to dialup.
Had some teething problems- dead Ethernet card, noisy line, etc., but it certainly is nice once the bugs are worked out.
Are you aware of this site?
http://www.dslreports.com/ If not, try their "our tools" page to check speed, try their tweaks- you may be able to fine-tune your connection a bit.
Just FWIW, those who can't leave dialup for whatever reasons can greatly improve speed via this service:

Ditto. I switched to Roadrunner cable 13 months ago. I'll never go back to dialup.
It's all good.

... so far it's great for sending pics It's opened whole new vistas for me- I used to avoid anything with graphics, video clips, or even audio- but between DSL and a better PC, I can finally see all the stuff I had missed. Even Mia T's posts...

One of my favorite FR threads is the useful idiot caption-a-rama and now I don't have to wait half an hour to see everything.
I agree with you esp. with respect to multimedia like graphics, etc.

I will go out and get another job to pay for it if necessary. I will never give up my cable modem.

As a matter of fact, if you want to get the ultimate FR experience....heck the ultimate surfing experience...
go to this link and download MyIE2. It's FREE! It lays a new front end over the MicroSoft Internet Explorer back end and gives you a whole new tabbed browser with some really nifty plug-ins available. You can have many browser windows open at the same time.
Example; one window for News and Activism...another for General Interest (chat)...another for the Smokey Back Room...another for VetsCoR...another for Goggle...another for...well you get the idea.
Coupled with broadband access it can't be beat.
