Robbing a donut shop? DOH!

But it can't take first prize in the dumb crook hall of fame. The best one I've heard was on a thread some time ago which described a doofus who tried to holdup a gunshop owner at knifepoint. Not only was the owner packing, but the place was full of policemen. The resulting deafening roar and the smell of cordite were tremendous.

Yeah, because people don't ever actually break the rules of the road.

Look, I would rather law enforcement officers be out putting their boot on some rapist's nuts or their elbow into a batter's throat, but they can't do that either. It would hurt the criminals feelings and lower their self esteem.

Sounds like you got busted and still aren't over it. I understand your pain, trust me, but there are very few cases where an officer trumps up a traffic violation just so he/she can write you a $50 ($75, $100, etc.) ticket.

Are there some cities or counties that take traffic enforcement too far? Yes. I live about 15 miles from one called Waldo, Florida. The major revenue generation for the city is traffic violations. But, in large part and across the country, if you got a ticket, you deserved it.

Don't get made at a cop for doing their job. Take your ticket like man, go to traffic school, buy a radar detector (and a scanner?), and go on with your life.

Did somebody think it was a good idea to rob a donut shop?

After all, that's where the cops are 24/7 according to the Libertarians on FR.

So I guess you're saying that even a stopped clock is right twice a day?

In any event, it seems almost everyone on the thread concurs with this satirical judgment.

We used to drive 5 miles into town on Saturdays when I was a kid to eat hot donuts at Krispy Kreme. I thought my parents were crazy, but the donuts were delicious.

Now we have to drive 45 miles so our children can have the same experience.

Oh, I agree with most of your points. It's not the cops fault at all either that local politicians USE them for revenue generation. But the fact remains that most cops (at least in Houston) spend the majority of their time on traffic violations rather than on other kinds of enforcement. Why is that? Simply because the local government wants the money. Same reason that at all accident scenes SOMEONE gets a ticket, regardless of the situation.

The other item that needs to be addressed is that cops make themselves immune to traffic tickets. I would take getting a speeding ticket better if the cop handing me the ticket was held to the same law. You can say what you want, but I know for a fact that cops get out of tickets ALL THE TIME, cops and their friends and families... and good looking chicks.

Approximately 11 shots were fired by the officers and the suspect, Lt. Derek Glenn said.

This is what concerns me. Now, an idiot with a gun is entitled to miss; however a policeman who is PAID with my taxdollars should be able to hit what he is aiming at at least 75% of the time. We are not talking about hitting a 4 inch paper target, we are talking about a target with a radius of at least 12 inches. I'd like to see every bullet a cop shoots be a fatal one, but for them to unload at a suspect and miss potentially 100% of the time, or wing the suspect by hitting him in the foot (that's missing the target by ~4 feet)is unacceptable!! With a pattern that wide, the cop just as well may shoot randomly in the direction of the suspect. All they are doing is adding more stray gunfire to the atmosphere.

Take your ticket like man, go to traffic school, buy a radar detector (and a scanner?), and go on with your life.

That's what we do. But that doesn't mean they deserve any respect because they are "doing their job" to fatten the local coffers and make themselves look good for promotion.
