20 oz glass.
Swim.. well, everyone who's had the concoction said that's what they felt like after a bit.
Not sure if anyone would actually like the taste.
(Mint schnapps and licorice sambuka make a wicked flavor together. They can be swapped out flavoring wise with other flavors.)

Go Nully! I don't think I've ever seen you quite so wound up. Free country? Yeah, I remember when we used to say that too. Been a long time since it really meant anything though. And as time goes on, there will be less and less of us who can actually remember what it was like.

No need to feel sheepish. I was just respond to some comments further down the thread from Nully's post about politics. Yes, we have had some heated discussions in the past, and I remember one in particular that resulted in a real schism. Those of us on this thread are certainly not monolithic in our beliefs and opinions, nor should we be. My hope is that we can have our disagreements, and remain friends.

I haven't said "Go ahead, it's a free country" to anyone in a very very very long time. While we are still more free than many other places, I can remember a time when this WAS a more free country than it is now.

"As we grew older, if we kids wanted something extra, we worked for it. I babysat and cleaned homes. My brothers mowed lawns in the neighborhood and later bagged at the supermarket." Now those jobs are being done by illegals and kids are too d****d spoiled to actually work for anything. That aside, I think it is much harder to make it now because the government is in everything you do. That puts severe restrictions on the entrepreneurial spirit.

If you want my two cents, methinks the whole immigration reform bill is about documentation. I mean, face it, illegals are already here being employed and draining resources in our communities ie health care and welfare. If they are made to register, then we should see a decline in demands on these services. If they do not register, and they must have an employer to do so, they will be deported. How will this be enforced, you ask? LOL Well, it is that little jewel of a paragraph in the bill that says employers who hire illegals will be harshly punished. Really, I think Ashcroft's going after the company that contracted to Wal Mart was just a prelude of things to come. We can't protect our borders to the south without barbed wire and gun towers along the whole length. I think I much prefer this method.

When I was a kid, we all got jobs when we were old enough. My sisters worked in the fields, and in the fruit packing sheds (I didn't because my allergies really flared up). I cleaned houses and babysat. Imagine that - American kids doing field work. I don't see a lot of kids doing that kind of work these days. We also helped out our parents in their business, doing inventory, stocking shelves, and running the cash register.

Looking back, I think the one that schismed (is that a word?) the thread was over a pretty silly point......I was too busy and was not posting for about 3 months when that happened. One of those who left, I disagreed with deeply on a couple of points, but I really enjoyed their company and miss them.
We do have a lot of different viewpoints on this thread, one of many reasons I enjoy it here. I would hope we can discuss without losing it as well. In that we are in on the same page.

I don't understand the illegal debate very well. I think you've come to the heart of it with the documentation.
It's a huge problem that needs a true public airing.
Anyone who says we have to deport the whole lot is not dealing with some realities. Anyone who says we need total amnesty and open borders is not dealing with some realities.
It wasn't the discussion I disliked, it was the proposed bill that seemed short sighted and poor in its vision.

Here's a couple of places you can vent, Nully. Go to
this thread and read the posts of "itsareligionofpeace" and to
this one and read the posts of "#3Fan."

Well, in my opinion, kids don't do that anymore because their parents certainly don't expect them to do so. Most parents each have a full time job just to buy them cell phones, computer games, designer clothes and a new car on their sixteenth birthday. And as they grow older, they think they have to go to the best college and when they graduate...on to a high paying job without doing the grunt work.
I know that in my five year old granddaughter already. She was over the other night and asked PaPa for two quarters and a dime (her words) to buy a soda at kindergarten. He was fishing in his pocket for change when I stopped him. I told her she would have to do a chore for soda money. She told me "no, chores are boring". I told her if she wanted money she would have to dust my living room. She pouted a while and finally did it...and was proud of her earned money. Now, her mother and father would have just handed it over to her. LOL

The problem is it's still more free than any place else. We still have it better than any place I know of. I think we're all a bit frustrated and are sensing that it may not stay free enough in the ways we would like.
Problems:
1. We are facing a civilization busting Islamic threat that is real and not going away.
2. WE are facing a civiliztion busting threat from the leftists of our generation that are in control of the Democrat party
3 That party is still so powerful that it can actually get elected and we as conservatives are not united in how to oppose and defeat them
4 We as a party do not have it together with a leader as powerful and clear as Reagan was and we flounder in the waves of our representative Republic.
5 There are others.....the list is long.

"I don't know what to do either. I am definately not happy." Which brings us back to an earlier idea....FReeper Island. We pool our resources and Loddy finds us an island somewhere to move to.

I just got back from the local Wal-Mart. I was there just after Christmas, too. I had the same kind of experience today as then - not a positive one at all.
Lots and lots of stuff to choose from -- just not the stuff I want.
Long, long lines to stand in while clerks move slowly and visit with each other, unconcerned about the customers wasting half an hour while clerks trade registers and talk about who is on lunch break.
Crowds are growing, choices diminishing and lines stand stagnant. I recall reading about shopping experiences like this in the Soviet Union.
Is Wal-Mart really capitalism at it best?
