You know babe, I was always a dog person and we had many great German Shepherds. Then I got involved in the SPCA. I became the SPCA President locally and held that position for 5 years. I also became an Inspector and did abuse calls. After working with the Shelter cats for about the first year and seeing the incredible abuse that is heaped upon cats by humanity, I became the most obsessive of cat lovers. I had always liked cats anyway and always had one. But, the SPCA experience turned me into a cat nut. I too get veeeeerrrrrry upset at unseemly cat "jokes". After what I have seen and dealt with, I find nothing funny about cat jokes as in duct taping their legs together for fun etc. I now can't pass up a "stray" to save my soul. My poor husband finally had to give up. We had five cats at home at one time. Because I work downtown, I also feed a number of street cats on a regular basis. When the time is right, a friend and I, set the trap, trap and alter and treat them, if necessary. We try to find acreages that will take them and feed them and look out for them. If not, we release them back to the colony and have a caretaker continue to feed them. Once you are hooked, you are hooked.

You do good work. Thank goodness for people like you.
Are you familiar with Ragdoll cats, by any chance?

Russian Blues are wonderful cats..I had one I rescued in Yuma. Quite a character..He was on the roof of a neighbor's house..Crying his heart out. So I go get a tall ladder, drag it through my condo and out across the street, set it against the tree and the cat jumps down!!!!! So I fix him some food and take him and the pan about a mile from my house to give him something to eat. Before I got home..he was back on the patio....so we called him the Gray Fox ( Foxie). He was with us for a long time, got in a few scrapes and finally passed away from kidney failure. He loved everyone and was soooo talented at getting in the house..not just ours but anyone that took his fancy. Always a polite guest he would make himself to home after opening all the cabinets to see what munchies could be found...he thought he was a people not a cat...The paw prints they leave on your heart and life.....

You wouldn't want a broken down, ornery, stubborn old phart like me around....Anyway, I can't travel anymore....Pretty well tied down here close to my Docs...
It was I take it a kind thought...Thanks for even thinking of it....

Well, actually, Westy, you would be the perfect cabin mate for me. I cannot find a lady to share a room. So, I need an old broken down fart (your words) to share expenses for the cabin. My husband would never be jealous of you. (I think) LOL But, on second thought, you probably hate cigarette smoke, so we would not be compatible. LOL But, I do have a medical background, you know. You just think about it, okay?
To: Conservababe
No, I haven't heard of that organization.

Missie had early stage renal failure too but that is not what got her..it was that tumor. If anyone has a cat that gets a diagnosis of Hyperthyroidism get the scintigraphy test done. It is expensive...in the clinic where I took Missie if it confirms hyperthyroidsm then the radiation shot is given and kitty stays at hospital for 2 weeks so kitty is not a radiocat and then is usually fine.
I wish I had done that. Missie was put on methimizole twice a day and it was fine BUT I think if we had done the scan perhaps the tumor would have been found when it was small enough to go after...
We don't think Missie was in pain..or if she was it was not for long. She would eat..that got to be the hard part as the tumor grew..getting things she could manage but we did and she would eat several times a day. But the cancer is what got nourished and she grew thin.
She died 2 months and 2 days after the doctor in Tustin said there was nothing that could be done.
I had taken Missie out in the yard,. It was warm and sunny and the air was fresh. She was enjoying herself sniffing the air and she walked all around. After about 30 minutes or so, I took her in and put her in her window seat while I got some laundry in the dryer. Then I collecetd her and sat down with her in the recliner to watch the early news. She sat with me about half hour or 45 minutes then hopped down went to her water dish got a drink, went to her litter box which is where she was when I went in the laundry room. When I came back in just a minute she was lying on the carpet in front of the sink...I stroked her and she moved.. Iscooped her up and she sort of fought...her back legs were moving as if to say put me down but she was doing something with her mouth and her paws were up to her face. I think what happend is that the tumor finally positioned itself that it cut off her wind pipe...and just that morning I called the vet to ask about the symptoms of end stage cancer..what to look for as far as discomfort...Missie never complained about anything and that is why we think she had no real discomfort. She never had a temper and would follow us around, find sunshine places to sit etc...never missed her litter box..none of the things that would lead you to think she was so close except for the wt loss.
I took her in just after 5 and the vet is going to do an autopsy and send more tissue samples to the lab. She said she had never seen a tumor of this size or configuration in a feline before and she wants to know if this is a rare kind of sarcoma of the thyroid...if so, maybe it will lead to more research into thyroid matters for pets...I'll let you know what is learned.

Ragdoll is a breed of cats. I want one. I love my Conservative Cat (CC). He is a male seven year old grey. I nursed him through a very serious disease five years ago. He is the sweetist cat I have ever known. But, he is very much bonded with my husband and wants nothing to do with our grandchildren. So, I am thinking of getting another cat.

Renal failure in kitty cats...two things that contribute to the problem are fights and infections ( that is what got to Foxie) and poor dental condition as infection can get going and since they are small creatures it gets hold of them in a way that takes ions longer in humans...
