I shut down this computer before I went to bed last night -- someone started it up again and went to porn and drug sites for a couple of hours and downloaded programs and just pissed me off ---of course both of my kids deny it.

They are probably innocent. There are a lot of burglars who break in just to use the computer for porn and drugs.

In any case, time to password the thing

"I cannot reload windows with the recovery disks because my CD-rom drive is broken."

Yikes!

Not sure what got us. We got a ping of death alert from the router, but there were problems for 3 days. After that, Doug (maxplunder) reset the filters and closed a bunch of ports. Everything seemed to be fine for 2 or 3 days when we started losing data on 3 out of 4 computers on the network. The fourth wasn't on the rounter, so it wasn't affected. Anyway, when Doug went to check out my computer, I only had 300 files left. Very bad. Then, after I got the computer back and started to download updates, Cablelynx went down through the whole state until late this morning and even once it was back up we couldn't connect because something had screwed up the order of the connection, presumably due to Budge's guest having plugged into the router. I guess it threw the settings off or something. Anyway, I have all the updates downloaded now, but I still have to load all my programs from CD...scanner, camera, paint shop pro and all that stuff. This is a royal pain in the *$$!

The "Mercury Content of Fish" business is complete crap.
A dozen years ago there was a mercury in tuna flap. The Smithsonian opened some cans bought for an expedition in the 19th century and found mercury levels just as high.
It is not polution but a natural tendency of fish to concentrate mercury.
It has been in them for millions of years and we have been eating them for millions of years.

I think all this started when it showed that a low carb. high protein diet is better than statch and sugar!

Than it could be because prices of meat is going up so in order to keep down the cost could be sabotage
