No, the northern states.
I'm an Ohioan by birth, and northerner by nature.
I would stick out like a sore thumb in the southern states.
There's no place and space for me south, I wouldn't belong.
*chuckle*
Of course, where do I ever really 'belong'?
If the 'norther' states were ejected, I wouldn't be able to fit in too well.

I have a solution that would be good for me.
We should give up most of December, all of March and some of April and cede them to the South.
It's important to share.....

...the encroachment of the federal government upon the rights of the states... No, it was the encroachment of the states over the rights of individuals - state-sanctioned slavery is Not Freedom. Yankees did not risk their lives to fight for federalism, but for what they believed was right - the abolition of slavery throughout the Union they loved.

Something like that *L*

"Yankees did not risk their lives to fight for federalism, but for what they believed was right" Then explain why the yankees' slaves weren't freed after the emancipation proclamation.

Yankees did not risk their lives to fight for federalism, but for what they believed was right - the abolition of slavery throughout the Union they loved. Then why the draft riots in Boston in 1863? And the same riots happened in Boston during intergration in the fifties.
Yankees talk the talk, but they seldom walk the walk.

No, it was the encroachment of the states over the rights of individuals - state-sanctioned slavery is Not Freedom. Yankees did not risk their lives to fight for federalism, but for what they believed was right - the abolition of slavery throughout the Union they loved. Maybe that is what Yankees think now, but it surely wasn't what Lincoln thought, nor what most of the soldiers thought.
The war was fought over the politics of States Rights. As usual, the govt had a red flag propaganda issue to get the ignorant to enlist.
There were lots of Southerners who did not believe in slavery, and did not keep slaves, despite having plenty of money to do so. It didn't stop them from signing up to fight for their State and the Confederacy.
There were a lot of Northerners who had no objection to slavery, but signed up to fight for the Union.
I had ancestors in both those categories.

Please do much more research on Lincoln's reason for invading the Confederacy...Lincoln gave a rat's ass about slaves: he wanted them all shipped back to Africa, or anywhere else for that matter.
The north had to conscript soldiers, the south had all volunteers - that tells it all.
Cheers, guys.

The north had to conscript soldiers, the south had all volunteers - that tells it all. The south didn't have enough volunteers, that says something.
