Ok....a two fer
Shower joke that was real:
Friday night we went to dinner supper at a neighbor's home (her name is Nancy). We got there and she told about how she had tried to call us to warn us to get there a little late. She called, and when the phone was answered she said something like this "Hi David, I'm going to go take a shower now, so why don't you come on over in about a half an hour and I'll be ready"
Silence on the other end of the line.
Suddenly a voice piped up, "Nancy. Nancy......I'm not David"
She hopes the guy didn't have caller ID.

My parents both came from the Pacific Northwest. Oregon and Washington.

I have been too upset to get into it the past several days. The Hemlock Society has jumped in to try to keep the focus on "right to die," and one of the newspapers is pushing a skewed poll with midleading wording. You know, the day is gonna come when all the fancy spin and lies and deception iain't gonna get it. When these people come before God, they're gonna be stricken with the same afflicition that Jim Carrey had in Liar, Liar. I just wish He'd take a mind to afflict them sooner rather than later, so we could all enjoy the show.

Bravo for your link to the thread. The only thing wrong in the article...is that in the south...it is dinner...not lunch, no?
To: Windshark
Okay, so that's why your relatives are very liberal!! Washington and Oregon send some of the absolute worst critters to Congress.

People who advocate assisted suicide seldom kill themselves. I wonder why?
To: Conservababe
"is that in the south...it is dinner...not lunch, no?" Yep, at least when I was growing up. Yankee infestation has taken a toll on our dialect though.

Amen! THIS case is really important because of the precedent it will set, one way or the other. It is SO UN-believeable to me that in a so called civilized nation, that this is even up for discussion.
To: Conservababe
"People who advocate assisted suicide seldom kill themselves" Likely because they think they are somehow superior and therefore indispensible making them exempt.

My real Southron
Belle, um, er waittress story:
We went to the Smokies with all of our kids for Spring break one year. For two of the nights we stayed near Gatlinburg.......which all of us now call the "striyup" because of this story.
We went out to dinner on our last night to a decent looking restaurant that the motel owner said was pretty good. Linda always likes to chat with people so she started a conversation with the waittress. Honestly, we weren't being Northern snobs, but she was a genuine walking steryotahpe Hollywood Southerner. Linda was telling her how beautiful the mountains and the streams were, and she said.....Ah don't know bout thayt....Ah jus lak to go up and down the "striyup" at naht, never beyn in them mountains atall.
Linda ordered some kind of nice fish fillet, and the waittress served her a full stuffed trout head, tail and all....which was also on the menu....so we asked her about it and she said..."Looks lak fiyish ta me!" We did get the hosttess, who was very nice, very embarrassed and I've often wondered if she kept her "joyub".

Yankee infestation has taken a toll on our dialect though. We don't have a dialect. We talk just fine. Its those yankees who have a dialect. LOL
To: Canadian Outrage
I agree Lynn, but then it seems I have been saying that for years. We seem to be increasingly immersed in disussions that we never thought civilized people would have.

Oh, yes, indeed. People like Korvorkian (sp) wanted to help people die so he could watch...the ghoul.
Is he still in prison? Why did he not kill himself instead of accepting jail?
But, these demented persons coerce others into believing in assisted death.
To: Windshark
I'm sure she did and they probably had a good laugh on the yankees after closing. LOL! It really is amazing that there are a lot of southerners who are averse to the outdoors. Kinda weird really...at least I always thought so. I worked with a lady once who told me her mama warned her about people that liked to go off in the woods by theirselves....she said they just wasn't right.
Of course, most of us are quite at home in the outdoors. The only real aversion I have is to bugs that see me coming and think "supper."
