Darn, I used to know the difference.

Well, if you like the picture, what do you think of it, really?

I have studied this pic many times. The sailor doing the kissing is dressed in winter blues and the one behind him on the left is in summer whites. And this is in August in Times Square. Now, which one do you think was being shipped out and which one had returned? And the nurse, isn't she cute? She looks like she is trying to hold up her stocking during this passionate jubilant assault. LOL

Well, okay, grumpy. LOL I just have a curious nature, I guess.

My relatives say that everyone everywhere came out into the steets, whether in the city or a small town, to celebrate VJ day.

I guess this picture just personifies for me something, but I don't know what, really.

Anyway, I think it is kind of funny that a number of women and lots of men have come forward to say that they were the persons photographed. But, none can be proven.

Westy, you really don't remember what you were doing when you heard the war had ended? Amazing. But, you remember when it started. No, actually, not that day, but you just knew that the war had started because we had been attacked.

You know what...I am going to take this opportunity on this day of Pearl Harbour anniversary, to rant. I have had it building up over a couple of days of reading threads, and now is the time.

I have an abiding respect for the military, but the whining of some and their families is tiring, in this war. And, some of our fellow freepers seem to accept the notion that if there is a whine, we must sacrifice to their whims of fairness.

Take for example the fact that many reservists are saying that they are in dire finicial distress because of their long deployments. Yes, they are not receiving the same pay as their civilian jobs. Well, they knew the risk when they signed up. They drilled on weekends and took the pay and now they have to serve. And some of our fellow freepers think this is unjust and have started a drive to send them money. Scuse me, but they are volunteers and should plan their lives according to the risks. After all, during WWII, you joined for the duration, not a few months, no?

And then on another thread, I see that this poor soldier had to pay his own way home from a combat zone to be there for the birth of his child. I can only assume he got some kind of hardship leave. But, our fellow freepers thought he should have flown home commercial airline for free. And they are griping that the two weeks R and R is not fully paid for by the military ie government. How many WWII military got leave and a free ride home during the war?

And on another thread, they were discussing the high cost of phone bills. Westy, were you able to phone home or e-mail your loved ones during WWII?

I will do everything for the military, but I am not going to excuse them from doing the duty to which they volunteered. I am tired of the whining.

Westy, were you able to phone home or e-mail your loved ones during WWII?

After my Mom died I didn't have any loved ones...I did get leave to go back home and settle things up then, but I had to pay for the trip myself...Train ride from Miss. to WA. and back...

I agree with you there is a hell of a lot of whining going on around the country about everything....

By the time the Korean Police Action came along I did have a loved one...She had just got back out to CA. from a visit home to Miss. When I got my orders for 90 days temp. duty to take part in an organizational traing movement to the far east...On a temp duty move dependants are NOT authorized traval pay to their home of record...Hell I knew I wasn't coming back in 90 days and since she was pregnant thought it best she go back home to have the youngun....I was one of the first guys back, 10 months later...My daughter was 6 months old the first time I saw her....

We didn't have all the quarters on base back then like now...Had to go out and compete with the civilians...What one could afford wasn't much.....

It was all a different world back then..I don't see`much hope for the country what with the ME TOO's and I'm entitled crowd....

.....Westy.....
