Personally I;m going over to bearshare and "share" some of his songs. I used to like his music and would sometimes buy some. Add this guy to the list of artists to burn rather than buy.Paid for some Ted Nugent early this summer.

Look, I'm an Ronald Regan (now ex) republican and I think he has a point -(not that people shouldn't have the freedom to wave flags of course), but there is a worrying trend that I see as a move from patriotism to nationalism.

The Republicans have moved now to support more and more socialist programs and the excuse is 911 - but it really is just pork and anyone against the new socialist right is blasted. This new republican wrapped in flag is really socialistic. I'm sure others will disagree with the extent, but there is a trend.

There is an unspoken hatred towards Islam from the Christian right that sees the light of day here. While the Arabs might be behind us in their history, the Christians promoted similar hate in their evolution as the following quotes show:

"I do further promise and declare, that I will, when opportunity presents, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do and to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth, and that I will spare neither sex, age nor condition and that I will hang, waste, boil, flay, strangle and bury alive these infamous heretics; rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women and crush their infants' heads against the wall, in order to annihilate forever their execrable race." --Pope Paul III, 1576

"Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." Psalms 137:9 KJV)

Hitler wrapped himself up in a flag - I think we all should be careful that we don't follow such a direction. Sometimes it is hard to see the forest for the trees – As he is somewhat removed, perhaps he sees things that we don't.

I hear ya. I've been flying a flag every day since 9/11/2001. (Prior to that, the flag was flown only on national holidays mostly to reduce wear and tear.)

Since 9/11, I've gone through three flags due to fading and wind-related damage. It always pains me to see faded and tattered flags flying...and flags not properly presented.

Right now I have two flags flying: one for our honored dead who were murdered on 9/11; one for our soldiers overseas. All retired flags are being kept until both Saddam and Bin Laden have been captured and/or killed. (At which time, those flags will be retired ceremonially.)

I would prefer people fly the flag in accordance to the U.S. Flag Code.

I would prefer our U.S. government enforce our border security and sovereignty, instead of allowing our country to be invaded by millions of illegal aliens, that has led to epic nationwide lawlessness and fraud, while at the same time creating a nationwide national security time bomb.

Guess you can't have everything....

"It's easy to confuse patriotism with nationalism.

Now, what in the h*ll is that supposed to mean? I've heard others say things like this and I'm baffled. What exactly is "Nationalism"? Is he implying that we're being forced to fly the flag? This wouldn't surprise me considering that he comes from the socialist states of europe.

I guess he doesn't grasp the concept of people actually being PROUD of where they live.

I've sailed on month long voyages and I was always pretty proud of my tattered flag on the stern.

I can see where they need to be replaced after a time but what's wrong with a worn flag.

just curious, not flaming.

Holy buckets! I didn't realize that something I said warranted a flamesuit.

I knew what you meant. I also find it disturbing to see faded and tattered flags in front of peoples' homes and I see more than a few of them. It's as if they put it up after 9/11 with good intentions and then just forgot about it.

It's great to display a flag, but when it gets tattered, it needs to be replaced with a new one and the old one should be retired properly.

Simple 'nuff. :)

What's up with a flute in a rock band, did the accordian dude already have a gig?

Actually, the Tull song "Skating Away (On the Thin Ice of A New Day)" has both flute and accordian (played by John Evan)--and it's a great tune!!

Before I listen to "Locamotive Breath" no more, I'm going to want to see some context on this quote.

It is easy to confabulate nationalism and patriotism. Patriotism is loving your country and wanting to protect it, preserve it, and defend it. Nationalism is wanting to take over the World.

Of course, sometimes you have to do a little of the latter to ensure the former. I think we have to take over at least some parts of the World, given our current situation.

At least we live in a country where we are free to express our opinions - and fly our flag if we choose to. We don't live in some totalitarian state where people are telling us what to do and not do and how to think.
I'm an American and I can think for myself!

"Our flag is an icon that needs to be cherished and kept looking good."

Well, I misread your first post too Egon, but I thoroughly agree with your number 9. Proper flag etiquette calls for it to be disposed of respectfully and properly when it becomes tattered and worn.

80s? The only recall I have of Jethro Tull is from the 70s. And it's not much.

Jethro Tull were already has-beens in the 80's.

And I'm speaking as someone who used to like their stuff. ("Songs from the Wood" used to be one of my favorite albums.)
