SICK OF THEME TV ON FORMERLY GOOD CHANNELS? A GRIPE THREAD

Posted on 11/11/2003 6:13:37 AM PST by Chancellor Palpatine

OK - here is my peeve. TNT used to be kinda fun. There was a mix of action movies, some drama. Now, it is infested with Law and Order nearly nonstop. Now, USA is picking up Law and Order SVU, and it appears to be nonstop, displacing its formerly decent format.

Discovery has gone to nearly all forensic crime, and TLC has become Trading Spaces 24/7.

As a result, I've actually resorted to more PBS.

Does anyone else hate this theme thing, or am I alone?

I remember when TLC was new back in the '80's. They had a show called "The Mechanical Universe" where they would present such topics as Johannes Kepler's work to explain the motion of the planets....complete with animated algabraic formulas. It was great. The whole channel has been dumbed down quite a lot.

But then...what's wrong with looking at Paige Davis 24/7?

I concur in that sentiment, so long as I could either costume her or not costume her as my whims dictate. Unfortunately, they keep switching that that whole home decorating thing, which is a real drag.

But you're right about TLC. Remember "Connections" and how cool that was?

The only thing that stands out (to me) about "Law & Order SVU" is that there always has to be a point in the show where someone (usually the cops) gets to pontificate, "YOU SIIIICK FREEEEAAAAK!"

If you want a show that jumps the shark on a minute by minute basis, then watch CSI Miami. They must have infinite resources and infinite time, or none of the garden variety, easily proven murders in Miami rate any lab time. Their time is more appropriately spent on coming up with bizarro notions of responsibility that no sane human would ever see as murderous.

Have you noticed that AMC now not only has commercials, but that "Classics" seems to include bombs like that last Steve McQueen bounty hunter movie?

I don't watch television that often, but I used to like TNT for alot of the great movies they would show (old and new); but you're right it is now a Law and Order marathon. Don't get me wrong, I love crime dramas, but to me it seems that the show centers on abused or murdered children only, which I cannot sit and watch for entertainment purposes. I find it too disturbing.

OK - here is my peeve. TNT used to be kinda fun

Electronic detonators are the problem. Half the fun of TNT is not knowing exactly when that sucker's gonna explode.

Now that C4 is readily available over the internet, TNT just doesn't pack the punch it used to.

I can get C4 over the net? Cool - I'll just have it delivered the same day as my oxycontin supply on the UPS truck.
