Alas, if your friend is truly liberal, then NO amount of data and fact will convince him. Liberals "feel" things. Better you should agree and point out that the history he cites is why the dems will not allow President Bush to appoint any Roman Catholics to the federal bench. It is the dems response to this terrible Christian slavery thing.

Believe it or not, public television is showing a geneology program and a couple of weeks back, they talked about a black freed man in New Orleans who owned black slaves until he solf them to be able to afford to move back to Virginia(?). I couldn't believe that a neocommunist America-hating media outlet would ever even admit to such a thing.

Liberals are too stupid and crooked to be influenced by facts. They want to be loved, be sensitive, and feel superior. That's all.

I think Japan recently acknowledged keeping 20,000 Korean girls and women as sex slaves during WWII for their Army. Ghengis Khan had a huge army, many of whom were slaves, usually of the cities he had sacked. Nebuchadnezzer kept slaves. Happened all over history. Oh, also the Aztecs.

Dictionary by Merriam-Webster:

Slavery has been a part of human society as far back as we can trace recorded history. It probably goes back even farther into pre-history and, in fact, almost certainly developed as soon as humans began dividing into tribes, and tribes began warring against each other.

In historical times, all of the known ancient cultures around the world practiced slavery in one form or another. Whenever one group fought against another, whole populations of the defeated side were commonly taken into slavery. It was as widespread in ancient Rome, for example, as it was among early Native American cultures.

Nor did the practice of slavery end in the 19th Century. It's still practiced in parts of the Islamic world today, particularly in Sudan.

He can take a look at the Egyptians and follow the history of Islam that still enslaves in certain regions. Hell, the Sudan and several African nations still engage in human trade.

Has your friend ever heard of Egypt enslaving the Jews?

He doesn't even have to knwo how to read (as in the Bible).

Maybe he's heard of a little movie called The Ten Commandments.

The Spaniards enslaved millions of Africans. That's how my ancestors arrived in Jamaica.

American slaves were purchased from Islamic slave traders in Africa.

Seldom. Almost all American slaves came from the Gulf of Guinea area of West Africa. The coastal Africans then (as today) were seldom Moslem. More often they were animists. They used the guns and goods they got from the traders to finance purchase of slaves and raids on tribes further inland. At this point in history, Moslems were still mostly quite a ways further north.

Hell, in addition to all the other societies mentioned here, there were even slaves in Atlantis -- according to Plato. Slavery goes back to the dawn of mankind.

The barbarian tribe, the Alans, did not hold slaves, which the Romans found to be remarkable.
