I was actually thinking of buying:
- HAM radio (understand this requires some training and a test)
- RAD detector (about $250)
- Building a Safe Room out of concrete block
- NBC filter (AmericanSafeRoom.com)
I already have nearly a year's worth of food and plenty of water and first-aid. As well as a back-pack ready to fill with stuff if I need to hightail it out of here.
Some may think I'm nuts, but I'm sure there are many among those of us here who are well-read on the subject who are probably planning similar investments.
At least these things would make me feel safer. I have no allusions as to the local, state or federal gov't helping us when all heck breaks loose. And I am not sure I want to be with all of the other people trying to get out of Dodge when the stuff hits the fan. That just sounds like a quicker way to die to me.

I remember back in the early 60's after the ussr exploded that BIG one. Bomb shelters went up everywhere.Living in BFE it never affected us although we did do the drills at school with no shelter. I remember seeing the panic of the city dwellers on TV, I could never relate.Of course we raised all our own food anyway.Fallout shelters, do they even exist anymore?
