If caught without potassium iodide you can cover one arm in betadine. There was a study done on this out of Hershey Medical Center in PA. Personally I think it might be a safer way to go with kids.

Is it potassium iodide or iodine and where do you get it? With the betadine, do you just cover one arm - shoulder to wrist? Keep reapplying?
