During the blackout, I recall a thread where someone said the US electrical grid is divided into 3 sections...East, West and Texas. Will try to locate thread...memory not all that reliable pre-caffeinated!

Haven't located the map I was looking for on FR but perhaps _Jim can help as he was on several of the Blackout Threads. I did locate a map on CNN which identifies "...the division of the three main power grids in the contiguous United States..."...the Western Interconnection, the Texas Interconnection and the Eastern Interconnection. Just a WAG on my part.

That's pretty much it, but, there *are* even a couple of interconnections (lines or tie lines) between those roughly defined Interconnection or 'grids' as well nowadays - even between that formerly isolated 'island' of Texas and the Eastern Interconnection.
