I have reservations for 5 days in the French Quarters for New Years. I have to change planes in Houston. I am seriously thinking about canceling.

If it were me, I'd probably not cancel, but be very aware of my surroundings. I'd might rethink some of my activities while in the Big Easy (but then again, if it were me, I'd probably be at relatives' houses more than at events in the Quarter)...
