Ok, brainiacs.. I've searched all over the internet trying to identify this girl. We found it in my mom's bathroom and we live in north GA. It didn't have any type of web nearby. She is (my brother still has her in a jar for fun) 1.5-2 inches long. We've never seen one like it here.

The way I understand it. Only 2 spiders are fatal to a healthy full grown human. Black widows and Brown recluses.
I'll search to help you out though.

There is a guy on FR that is great at identifying stuff like this but I can't remember his screen name.

Who cares? SMASH IT!

Looking into it more there's another similar spider called the Harpactes rubicundus. Looking at the head it seems more likely to be that kind.
Either way it's bite seems to be an annoyance but not a problem.

The photos on that site don't look very much like the one in my photo though. And I didn't see fangs that the ones on your link on the spider we have. I looked very closely to try to see how many eyes she has and I could only see 2. (though i thought spiders always had atleast 4)

The difference I see in that one is that the front part of the body and back part seem to connect directly together.. this one has another segment in between the front and back.

From all the photos I've looked at online, it came closest to resembling the female funnel web spider found in australia. But we don't have those here so I'm sure it can't be that. It also didn't have the 2 little spines on it's butt like the funnel web has. Any idea if there are relatives of the funnel web here in the US that resemble the aussie ones?

I went through that once more as accurately as I could and it came up with "Loxoscelidae" but I can't find a photo matching this one when I google Loxoscelidae. I know it can't be a brown recluse because they are supposed to be real small with long skinny legs.
(it's going to bug me to death until i identify it! lol)
Maybe I'll take it to the local nature center tomorrow or Saturday and see if they can tell me what it is.

Got Health Care?
Let it bite you and bring it to a hospital. That way the doctors can worry about identifying it.

This post reminds me of the woman who asked what kind of snake it was that she had found in her house. Come to find out, the thing was under her bare foot, and she sat that was for hours typing on FR. She couldn't call anyone as the phone was across the room!!
What a site. I just love FR.
