Texas’ Incoming Chief Justice Hopes to Remove Religious Freedom Protections for Judges

Following the Democrats’ sweeping victory of statewide offices on Tuesday, the Texas Supreme Court will shift from 9-0 Republican control to 5-4 Republican control in January. As part of the shift, Ellis will be replacing the Republican Chief Justice Jimmy Blacklock.

Ellis previously served as a justice on the Austin-based Third Court of Appeals.

In her first public statement since the election, Ellis told the Dallas Morning News that she wants to ensure that any judges who officiate weddings in Texas also do so for homosexual couples, removing the religious freedom exemptions.

“One thing I’d like to do is work with the other justices to amend these orders to say either you perform all marriages, or none,” she said.

Ellis would need at least one Republican justice on board to effectuate such a change. Justice Debra Lehrmann (R) is expected to be the swing vote in many cases.

Kelly Shackelford, president, CEO, and chief counsel for First Liberty Institute, released a statement condemning Ellis’ comments.

“It’s sad that an incoming Justice’s first public statement is one against religious freedom,” said Shackelford. “We’ve won in litigation on this very issue. Religious freedom and accommodation are fundamental rights rooted in the history and tradition of America. The new Chief Justice is off to a regrettable start. First Liberty stands ready to defend any judge affected by this policy.”

Tragically, the shift in the Texas Supreme Court from solid Republican to Democrat control may have a greater and longer lasting adverse impact on the state than the losses in the state house. Forcing judges to perform homosexual marriages, despite their religious convictions, is just the beginning.

I knew a kid after high school who had dabbled in heroin, got addicted, and not for sex or money, but merely out of an evangelical false-altruism tried to get new acquaintances to use.

Another 1st person witnessed instance: With marijuana, stronger that anything they have now, even with 90% TCH - not cannabis sativa, but opiated Cambodian, cannabis indica. Young, vigorous 22 year old soldiers would absolutely pass out cold stone on the floor after 1 hit. In my family I observed this evangelical behavior on the last day of the 1960s, “just sharing”, with tragic, life altering consequences.

This explains the permanent institutionalization of LGBT grooming and recruiting, in the schools:

In my Granddaughter’s former high school in the notoriously homosexuality infested school administration in Rocklin California north of Sacramento, at Granite Bay High:

The high school counselor had a recognizable self-portrait, a line drawing of a woman facially identical with the counselor, except that she was naked and splaying out her “girl parts”, a kind of lesbian recruitment portrait, but highly “personal”.

This was allowed to go on, and even now 5 years later is probably up on the lintel above her office entrance.

I quit an African-American “Gospel” choir at Cosumnes River College, South Sacramento, because the Adjunct Professor, a heavy-thumping gospel piano master who didn’t need any drummer, started promoting homosexuality, and she wasn’t even gay.

Decades later, I attended an avant garde music performance in the Cosumnes River Theater, under an overtly homosexual department chair. The stage was decorated with professionally produced, fine art, plastic material, displays of skeletons copulating one another from behind.

This is all charted out in former head of Voice of America under W-Bush-43, Robert R. Reilly’s “Making Gay Okay: How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior is Changing Everything”, September 1, 2015:
